A Movie Night Favorite

Every Friday night we have a movie night. We pick out a new movie or classic and make popcorn like this white chocolate M&M popcorn (a FAVORITE treat)!

We love that it’s sweet, salty, and full of M&Ms. The dessert itself is very simple to make (just 3 steps) and is ready to enjoy in only 30 minutes – perfect for a snack break.

This delicious bowlful is the perfect afternoon snack or movie nosh. Other movie night snack favorites include White Trash, Puppy Chow, or Caramel Popcorn.

WHY WE LOVE IT:

  • Kids can help. The steps are simple – perfect for little helpers!
  • Perfect for feeding a crowd. One batch serves 12, plenty for sharing! It can easily be doubled for even more munching.
  • Only 3 ingredients! It’s not complicated with a short shopping list.

Ingredients

  • 2 (3.29-ounce) bags plain microwave popcorn – Use an air popper to pop ½ cup of popcorn kernels per microwave bag for a total of 26 cups of popcorn.
  • 1 (24-ounce) package vanilla almond bark (or candy coating) – Or use white chocolate chips with a little coconut oil to help thin it out so it will coat the popcorn more smoothly.
  • 1 cup M&M’s – any flavor (we used plain). Choose colors according to the holiday and add festive sprinkles.
  • optional – Replace some of the popcorn with peanuts, mini pretzels, mini Oreos, or mini marshmallows.

  1. POPCORN. Pop 2 bags of popcorn and pour into a large bowl, remove any un-popped kernels.
  2. COATING. Break 24 ounces of vanilla bark into squares and place in a medium pot over low heat. Cook, stirring constantly with a rubber spatula, until melted. Remove from the heat.
    • Pour candy coating over popcorn and mix until coated.
  3. MIX-INS. Add 1 cup M&M’s and mix, then spread the popcorn mixture onto a parchment paper–lined baking sheet. Let sit for 15 minutes, until hardened.

Made this just now with my hubby and it was absolutely delicious! Couldn’t find plain popcorn so we got “simply salted” and it turned out excellent.
