Quick + Easy Sausage Balls

We are HERE for appetizers – especially when you can eat them with a toothpick!

These sausage balls are a mix between a biscuit and a meatball making them extra delicious and perfect for parties. And we especially love that they are super easy to make and require minimal ingredients, including Bisquick.

Plus, these bites are the perfect appetizers to freeze and reheat when ready. They’re a hit at holiday parties and even make perfect finger food for Christmas morning when children are too excited to sit down for breakfast.

  • Ready in 30. Sausage balls make great before-dinner snacks, game-day munchies, or a quick and easy breakfast.
  • 5 ingredients. And two of those ingredients are milk and seasoning – it doesn’t get much easier!
  • Finger food. Add some toothpicks and you have the perfect appetizer or snack!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground pork sausage or sweet or hot sausage depending on your taste preference 
  • 2 cups biscuit baking mix
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese freshly grated – or mild cheddar cheese, Colby jack, Swiss, Parmesan cheese, Mozzarella, or Pepper Jack
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning (oregano, basil, rosemary, parsley, thyme, and marjoram). Increase any one of those spices for extra flavor. You can also add smoked paprika, chili powder, or garlic powder.
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk
  • optional sauce BBQ Sauce, Ranch Dressing, Honey Mustard Sauce, or classic ketchup

Make Your Own Biscuit Mix

Mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon baking powder, and 1 teaspoon salt. Use a pastry cutter to mix in โ…“ cup of vegetable shortening, or pulse it in the food processor.

How to Make Bisquick Sausage Balls

  1. PREP. Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
  2. MIX. In a large bowl, mix 1 pound pork sausage, 2 cups baking mix, 2 cups cheddar cheese, and 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning. Add 1-2 tablespoons milk as needed to make a smooth mixture.
  3. SCOOP. Use a cookie scoop to scoop the sausage mixture into 1-inch balls, roll smooth, and place on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. BAKE & SERVE. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through. Serve warm.

Sausage Ball Tips

  • How much to make? If serving these as an appetizer with other dishes, plan for 3-4 per person. If they will be more of a main dish, plan for 6-8 per person. 
  • How to keep them warm? Our favorite method to keep these warm during a party is to use a crock pot set to the warm setting. You can also use a chafing dish if you have one.

Ingredients

Instructions 

  • Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF. Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, mix the sausage, baking mix, cheddar cheese, and Italian seasoning. Add milk as needed to make a smooth mixture.
  • Scoop the sausage mixture into 1-inch balls on the prepared baking sheet. Bake 20-25 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through. Serve warm.

  • Freezer. Freeze until solid then transfer to a freezer bag and keep in the freezer for 2-3 months. When baking the sausage balls from frozen, be sure to add 8-10 more minutes to the baking time.
Store leftover Bisquick sausage balls in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or the freezer for 3-4 months.
