Banana Waffles are filled with fresh banana puree for a naturally sweet flavor. This kid-friendly breakfast whips up in only 15 minutes!!
Sweet Banana Waffles are a filling breakfast on their own. If you need a little more, they pair perfectly with a side of Scrambled Eggs and some Bacon Cooked in the Oven.

Naturally Sweet!
We LOVE breakfast food. We love it so much that on a weekly basis we serve up breakfast for dinner. With such busy mornings, and no time for elaborate meals, we have to whip up our favorites in the evening.
This is a win-win in our books, because it’s never too late for a plate of pancakes or a breakfast casserole!
Hubby loves him some waffles, so that is a staple in our house. While we love our buttermilk waffles, it’s fun to mix things up.
I thought I’d add some natural sweetness by mashing up bananas and adding them in the batter. The result was this batch of luscious Banana Waffles. They are borderline banana bread, part waffle, and all good!

How to make banana Waffles
PREP. Preheat waffle iron
DRY INGREDIENTS. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl.
WET INGREDIENTS. Whisk in milk, egg, vanilla extract, and mashed bananas and stir until just incorporated (you don’t want to over-mix).
COOK + SERVE. Pour batter onto greased waffle iron and cook until golden. Serve warm.
Favorite Toppings
The Banana Waffles are absolutely delicious and can easily be eaten without any toppings at all. Of course should you want to add some extra delicious flavors here are some favorites:
- Buttermilk Syrup
- Chocolate Sauce
- Whipped Cream
- Strawberry Sauce
- Maple syrup
- sliced fruit
- peanut butter
- Nutella
- honey
- flavored jams

TIPS + FAQ
Waffle Tip: The less you fuss with the batter the fluffier your waffles will be! I always let my batter sit for a few minutes to thicken before I make the waffles.
- Be sure you mix the dry ingredients separately as directed in the instructions.
- Don’t over mix. Its ok if the batter has a few lumps.
How to freeze? Freeze these waffles to be enjoyed later whether you make ahead of time or have leftovers. Place the cooked waffles on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Freeze until frozen (about 2 hours). Then, put them in an airtight freezer safe container. I usually use a Freezer Ziploc bag. The waffles will stay good for up to 4 months.
How to store? Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
How to reheat? To reheat refrigerated or frozen waffles, preheat oven or toaster oven to 350 degrees F and bake for 10-15 minutes or until hot. You can also heat them up in a toaster or the microwave.

Hi can you use wheat flour instead of all purpose flour.
Thank you
Yes, you can use whole wheat flour in this recipe! The waffles will be a bit heartier and less fluffy. For the best texture, try using half whole wheat and half all-purpose flour the first time to see how you like it.
I was going to make banana bread but ran out of butter, so I found your recipe and decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite work for me — the batter kept sticking to my waffle maker even after greasing. After the third try, I turned the rest into pancakes instead! They looked nice but tasted a bit funny, probably because my bananas were too ripe. Idk! 😅
Thanks for giving the recipe a try! I’m not sure why making waffles with them was such a challenge, but making pancakes was a good alternative.
The whole family loved these! Thank you!
I’m so glad your family loved them! Thank you for trying the recipe!
Whatever I do they stick to the pan 🙄
That’s so frustrating. Try lightly greasing the waffle maker and letting it heat up fully before adding the batter. That usually helps!
Fantastic recipe, lovely fluffy waffles every time, the little one loves them! Thank you!
It’s always nice to hear when kids, especially, enjoy the recipes.
Our favorite go to recipe now. I might add protein powder next time but I’m afraid to ruin them!
Im happy to hear you love this recipe! We have a recipe for Protein Pancakes and you could try adding bananas to that.
What is the weight of your 1 cup of flour? “Cups” appear to be different weights depending on which recipe you choose.
When you scoop flour into a 1 cup measuring cup and level it off it typically weighs about 4.25 ounces or 120 grams.
For me these were just OK, they tasted great, but to me waffles are supposed to be crispy, while pancakes are soft and squishy, but these waffles were not crispy at all. They were much more like pancakes.
Maybe it wasn’t your cup of tea and I appreciate you giving it a shot!
It was amazing 🤩
Made it today and it was good! Even my two yr old ate them. 👍🏼
The best waffles I’ve ever made, and I didn’t even add any sugar. Didn’t stick to the waffle maker at all!
I love your waffle recipes
Thank you!!
Waaaay too much baking soda, it was very overpowering and tasted like soap. I feel like it would’ve been good with 1tsp instead.
I believe the recipe calls for baking POWDER, not baking SODA. That may help.
Loved them! Something different and I had 2 ripe bananas to use. My 1 year enjoyed them. Toddler didn’t, he prefers plain waffles. Gave it a thumbs up on Samsung Food App.
I wish I would’ve read the comments before making the recipe. I experienced the same issue as others. The batter burned and stuck to the waffle maker, creating burned yet gummy waffles. Made them into pancakes. Would not recommend. There are other banana waffle recipes with different portions that don’t cause this issue.
As other reviewers experienced, the waffle batter sticks to both sides of the waffle iron and the waffle splits apart in the middle. I have made waffles using other recipes successfully many times, and I thoroughly greased the waffle iron, so the problem is truly the recipe.
Simple solution to this add butter or oil to the recipe and everything will be great. I tried it without and had the same problem. Add oil and it turned out great. I prefer oil to butter as you get a nice exterior crisp while the inside a soft and fluffy. No butter or oil is a flaw in this recipe.
Tastes fine but it’s not a good waffle batter, it got separated and I ended up with two crispy peaces. I made the rest into pancakes
Wow!!! These are Delicious! They can be served “plain” but plain would never be a descriptive option here. I could eat the whole recipe by myself and the only regret would be that there aren’t any for later. Definitely adding to my waffle recipe rotation.
For fun, I added some cacoa powder. Tasty.
Thank you for sharing.
They taste very good but get soggy and a little salty even with just a small sprinkle of salt
Had zero issues with batter sticking to waffle iron. Added some chocolate chips. Delicious waffles. Thank you.
Stuck to the top and bottom of waffle maker even when oiled, impossible to cook as waffles so made them into pancakes. Wouldn’t recommend
Loved these! Used the 1/8 tsp and 1 tsp cinnamon suggestion. We thought these tasted like french toast waffles. Yum!
Perfect!! Really loved these. Only things I changed were from review feedback saying to up the cinnamon and nutmeg. I use 1 t Ceylon cinnamon and 1/8 tsp nutmeg. I also used freshly milled soft wheat flour for the batter. When my waffle maker gummed up I cooked the rest as pancakes and they were still amazing.
Yummy
These exceeded my expectations! So delicious. The only thing I did different was add extra cinnamon and nutmeg to the mix. Will be making these again and again.
Oh that makes me so happy to hear!! So glad you enjoyed the waffles!
I used just one banana and used coconut oil to grease the waffle iron. Delish!
Too much baking soda for us, they turned out rather fishy.
It calls for baking powder, not soda… maybe that was the issue?
There isn’t any baking soda in the recipe. The recipe calls for baking powder. That might have been the problem.
These are coming out so well (currently cooking my 4th one) so im not sure where the bad reviews are coming from maybe im using a revised recipe but this recipe is perfect! Thank you! Will def make these again 🙂
Came out delicious. Both my 11 month old and 23 month old enjoyed it. I did reduce the sugar amount to just a pinch since the bananas were pretty sweet. I also added in some oil. Came out perfect. Thank you 💙
You’re welcome!!
Made it with whole wheat flour, brown sugar and almond milk. Was delicious 😋.
Can you make this the night before.
I typically like to make them right after mixing the batter, so the baking powder is fresh and activated. It helps make them fluffy. You can definitely try making the batter the night before. These waffles store and reheat well too, so you could also cook the waffles and then save in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat in the toaster or in the oven at 350 for about 10 minutes.
Came out so soggy! I didn’t undercook it.. the color was brown but I think this is too watery
Thanks for the feedback and for giving the recipe a try. Sorry to hear they didn’t quite turn out for you.
Honestly, I think it has way too much baking soda in it. I removed the sugar because the bananas provide enough sweetness for me and I’ve been making waffles for years without sugar just fine. However, this recipe had a strange taste and an almost fishy aftertaste.
Thanks for the feedback and for giving the recipe a try.
Delicious!!
Very yummy!
This is absolutely delicious and my baby loved it! Although I typically use almond milk for recipes, I used whole milk on this one. Also, substituted the sugar with 1 tbs of Maple Syrup. Worked like a charm! I typically don’t comment on recipes but I had to on this one.
PS: The ads on your website are a bit overwhelming and slow down the page. However, I understand this is how monetized websites work.
Isn’t the 1 tbsp baking powder too much?
We haven’t found it to be too much. It works great in this recipe!
Always comes out amazing, thanks!
Oh my goodness!!! This recipe is so perfect. I eliminated the cinnamon & nutmeg and replaced the vanilla with rum extract because who doesn’t love rum & banana?!?! Lots of banana flavor, tender & yummy!
That sounds delicious!! Thanks for sharing. So glad you enjoyed the waffles!
Kids loved them.
I used whole wheat flour, after sifting I added back the husk.
Thank you Kristyn.
You’re welcome!!
Used oatmilk and was still delicious
Loved this recipe! We don’t use regular milk, so I substituted almond milk, and they turned out great! Very flavorful! Thank you for sharing, as it will become a family favorite!
Loved this recipe. Made it twice this week. 🤤
This is my go to recipe for delicious banana waffles. Simple and easy to make even for a 75 year old male. I did delete the sugar but added pecan pieces. They freeze up nicely too. Many thanks for this great recipe.
You’re welcome! I’m so glad you enjoyed the waffles!
They turned out nice and fluffy! Definitely a hit
I made it with wheat flour and I put the fine shredded bulgur in it like one tablespoon and it worked well for me,
The bulgur I never thought it will make it a hint of crisp but it worked for me and the recipe without my suggestion is already perfect
Many thx
Koly
Had some really ripe bananas. Decided to try your recipe especially bc of all the good reviews. My husband would not eat them. The flavor is fine but they have no crispness to them at all like most waffles. Did you forget to add a little melted butter or oil to the recipe? Won’t make them again. Sorry.
Little one ate almost a whole waffle!

This tasted so amazing! Thanks a lot for sharing this super easy to make banana waffles recipe! Fam really loves it! Will surely have this again! Highly recommended!
I will be making these again for sure!! Love the hint of banana & how soft they are! My kids added some nutella on top.
Waffles and bananas? Great combination for a nice breakfast. Almost like eating banana bread.
