Burgers are an American classic and a dinner our family eats frequently! While we love our grilled burgers, we often turn to these simple burgers in the oven as another easy alternative.
If it’s too hot outside to grill, we’ve run out of propane, or we want an oven-baked option, this is the recipe we use! Oven-baked burgers are still packed with flavor and prep in only 10 minutes. Our favorite part is that the rest of the time is hands-off; just let them bake!
Adding cheese is a breeze – bake for an extra minute to make it melty. Yum!! Top with your favorites; we love lettuce, tomato, and onion. Add a classic side of fries for a fast-food favorite made right at home!
Why we think you’ll love it:
- No grill is required! No grill? No problem! Bake up some classic burgers that are just as juicy and flavorful.
- The oven does the work. Just 10 minutes of prep, then let it bake for one easy dinner!
- For any time of the year. Enjoy burgers without facing the elements – a fast-food favorite (but SO much better) made right at home!
Oven Burger Ingredients And Substitutions
Burger Seasoning
- 1 tablespoon paprika – regular or smoked paprika
- 1¼ teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon brown sugar – light or dark brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder – or garlic salt
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper – or chili powder
Patties
- 4 beef patties, or 1 pound of ground beef shaped into 4 patties – We prefer 85/15 or 90/10 ground beef for the best balance of flavor. Too lean and they turn out dry, but fattier beef will produce too much grease in the pan.
- 4 slices cheese – Choose a cheese that melts well. Cheddar cheese, American Cheese, Monterey Jack Cheese, Provolone Cheese, Swiss Cheese, or Pepperjack cheese are all classic choices.
- 4 hamburger buns – You can use any bun; just make sure the size matches the size of the burger patties.
- optional – ketchup, mustard, relish, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, pickles
How to Make Burgers in the Oven
- PREP. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a baking sheet and set aside.
- PATTIES. In a small bowl, add paprika, salt, black pepper, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
- Season the patties to taste on both sides. Place in the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle with a little more salt and pepper.
- BAKE. Bake for 20-25 minutes (or until internal temp is 160°F).
- Add cheese slices to the baked hamburgers and bake for one more minute if desired.
- Remove from oven and serve warm. Option to toast the buns: Apply a thin layer of butter or olive oil to each slice and place cut side down on a hot griddle, or cut side up in a toaster oven or broil in the oven. Heat until warm and toasted, about 30-90 seconds.
Kristyn’s Recipe Tips
- We like to add 1-2 teaspoons of seasoning for every pound of ground beef. Adjust depending on your flavor preferences.
- For the juiciest, most flavorful burger, we recommend using 85/15 or 90/10 ground beef. If you use 80/20 beef, use a wire rack to keep them lifted out of the excess grease.
- Our favorite toppings are bacon, sliced tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, and red onion.
- If you are shaping your patties, you can mix the seasoning in and then shape them into patties. Create a shallow indentation in the center of the patty to keep the center from puffing up too much.
