Easy Yeast Roll Ingredients
- Quick rise yeast (1 package, ¼-ounce) – This instant yeast gives the dough a speedy lift so you can skip long proofing and still get soft, airy rolls.
- Sugar (1 tablespoon) – The sugar feeds the yeast for a reliable rise and adds a hint of sweetness to the crumb.
- Warm water (¾ cup, 110°–115°F) – Warm water activates the yeast at the right temperature for fast, steady rising without shocking it.
- Biscuit/baking mix (4 cups) – Using a mix streamlines mixing since the flour, leaveners, and fat are already balanced, which keeps the texture tender with minimal kneading.

These were very dry, and did not rise. Followed directions. When forming the balls, it was such dry dough, and not playable.
I usually bake and cook total from scratch for 55 years. I thought this would be a great alternative for rolls, and less work. Maybe I did not knead the full 5 minutes? Do not think that would have made a difference?
I should have used a bit more water, and added some melted butter to the dough. I will try that, maybe.
Sorry these didn’t turn out as expected, that’s always frustrating especially with so much baking experience! We appreciate you giving them a try and sharing your feedback!
Can I add dried fruit 9Sort of hot cross bun without the cross and add icing to the tops?
(maybe fill with jam and cream
I haven’t tried that with this particular recipe. If you do, mix the dried fruit into the dough before shaping them. Once they’ve baked and cooled, add the icing on top. Come back and let us know how they turned out!

Can I make this in a stand mixer with the dough hook to knead the dough for 5 minutes
I can’t need the dough by hand because of arthritis
I love all of your recipes
Thank you
Yes, just be careful not to over-knead using the mixer. I’m sorry to hear about your arthritis, but I’m happy it hasn’t stopped you from cooking and baking.

Mine turned out more biscuit like than yeast roll … any ideas why .. I followed directions
Hmm…I wish I knew. I haven’t had them turn out that way, so it’s hard to know. I’m sorry. I would just look online to see what would cause your rolls to turn out like biscuits & see if any of those explanations match with maybe anything you did. I appreciate you trying them! I hope they at least tasted good 🙂
tHESE WERE VERY EASY TO MAKE. THE BISQUITS WERE A TAD TOO SALTY FOR MY TASTE, AND FOLLOWING ALL THE MEASUREMENTS CORRECTLY I FEEL THAT THE ROLLS WERE TOO SMALL. THEY DID NOT TURN OUT ROUND, SOFT OR SHINY. NEXT TIME I’LL REDUCE THE SALT, KNEAD THEM MORE AND MAKE THEM BIGGER. GREAT START.
so sorry – but for some reason the program keeps defaulting to all caps. not my intention!
Thanks for trying them 🙂
