We have yet to meet someone who doesn’t love COOKIES! More specifically, we have yet to meet someone who hasn’t fallen in love with our best chocolate chip cookie recipe.
We got this recipe decades ago from a family friend, and it’s been loved and adored ever since. We’ve made a few tweaks along the way, and any time we make these cookies, we are asked for the recipe right away.
It uses butter, two types of sugar and two types of chocolate chips. The result is extra soft and chewy cookies with the PERFECT chocolate-y flavor! We have a feeling once you try it, that it will definitely be your go-to chocolate chip cookie.
Be sure to check out some of our other chewy, easy chocolate chip cookie recipes, like: Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies and Eggless Chocolate Chip Cookies or cookie classics like Snickerdoodles and Sugar Cookies.
Why we think you’ll love it:
- Simple steps. These are made in minutes and use pantry staples! No special ingredients are needed for fabulous flavor.
- SO tasty! This classic chocolate chip cookie is soft, chewy, and delicious. It’s simply the best!
- Dress it up. We use this recipe as the base for almost every cookie recipe I make.

Chocolate Chip Cookies Ingredients and Substiutions
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar – For a chewier cookie decrease the white sugar to ½ cup and increase the brown sugar to 1½ cup.
- 1 cup unsalted butter – see How to Soften Butter Quickly. Or use ½ cup softened butter and ½ cup vegetable oil.
- 2 large eggs – room temperature
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – or almond extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour – see How to Measure Flour
- 2 cups chocolate chips – Use any type or combination of milk chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, or chocolate chunks. We always do one cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and one cup milk chocolate chips. **We also always use Guittard chocolate chips
- optional toppings – top with sprinkles or flaky sea salt

How to Make The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies
- PREHEAT. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a baking pan or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- BATTER. In a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, cream 1 cup softened butter, 1 cup granulated sugar, and 1 cup brown sugar until combined well (a few minutes). Add 2 eggs and mix on low speed until fluffy (a few more minutes).
- In a medium bowl, add 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt. Add dry ingredients and 1 teaspoon vanilla and mix until combined. Add 2 cups chocolate chips (we love semi-sweet + milk chocolate).
- BAKE. Scoop cookie dough balls onto a prepared cookie sheet. The key to making the cookies look pretty is to add a few extra chocolate chips on top of the balls of dough. Bake for 9-11 minutes (or until golden brown) and cool on cookie racks or a wire rack.

Kristyn’s Top Cookie Tips
- MAKE ‘EM BEAUTIFUL – Add a mix of chocolate chips on top of your dough balls before baking. Once out of the oven, use the back end of a metal spatula to round out the cookie and add any more chips on top of the cookie in empty spots.
- MIX THE CHIPS. Everyone loves this recipe because it satisfies both the semi-sweet and milk chocolate chip lovers!! Guittard chips are the only chips we use when making these cookies. 😉
- NO-FAIL BASE – Use this delicious cookie dough base for all your cookie needs – Cookie Cake, Pizookie, and any other cookie combo needed. We love adding nuts, M&Ms, different chips and more!

Cookie Factors to Consider
We all know everyone likes their cookies a certain way – whether it’s soft, crunchy, large, small, chewy, crunchy, etc. Here are some tips to change up some things to get them just how you like them.
- SIZE – For bite-size cookies, use a mini scoop and bake for 6-7 minutes. For a bakery-style cookie, double scoop (one scoop on bottom and another on top) and bake for 12-14 minutes.
- FLAVOR – change it up by adding different chocolate chips (caramel chips, peanut butter chips, mint chips, etc). We love the white chocolate chip + butterscotch chip combo!!
- CHEWINESS – Instead of 1 cup sugar + 1 cup brown sugar, try using 1/2 cup sugar + 1 1/2 cups brown sugar. Or you can use dark brown sugar, which has more molasses and will make them the best chewy chocolate chip cookies.
- DRY-NESS – DO NOT pack your flour. Fluff flour and then spoon into measuring cup making sure to level off before adding to your cookie dough. Any more than 3 cups is too much flour and will make the dough too dry.
- CRISPY-NESS – If you prefer a cookie with crisp edges, you’ll need to reduce the moisture content. Try using one of these tips:
- Bake the cookies for longer at a lower temperature. The cookies will have time to spread out more before they firm up.
- Replace the brown sugar with white sugar or corn syrup. Without the moisture contained in brown sugar they will become more dry and crispy.

Not sure why the vanilla flavor wasn’t added with the eggs and why the salt and baking powder were not mixed in with the flour first?
We love chocolate chip cookies that are soft, sweet but not too sweet,a hint of salty. So if you love a ( GREAT CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE) then you must try these, they are soooooooo good,Or as (TONY THE TIGER SAY’S THERE ( GERRRRRATE) YOU WON’T BE DISAPOINTED…..

I tried this recipe, the cookies are still in the oven. I wanted to ask if yours were crumbly? I double & triple checked the ingredients and recipe. I’ve never had crumbly cookie dough before. I hope someone can answer this for me. Thank you!
Helped me very much and they tasted awesome
I love making these cookies for my family and my family loves them to
I love the chucks of chocolate and the rest of the flavors.
I love this cookie recipe!! It is definitely a keeper. Sometimes when l make them they turn out great. Other times they turn out not as puffy but more flat. Is there something l do wrong on accident to make them turn out this way? It is on and off and very confusing. Thank you!!
Always refrigerate the dough at least 1 day for the flavors to blend.
This is my favorite cookie recipe. I’ve used it so much I have it memorized!
This has been my favorite cookie recipe for 7 years now. I usually make it with 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup oil because they turn out extra soft. This time I tried dairy free chocolate chips and used coconut oil instead of butter, and it was equally delicious. Make it with dark brown sugar instead of light; you won’t regret it!

I found your recipe about 5 years ago. My entire family loves them! They ask me to bring my famous cookies whenever we get together! The only thing I do different is to refrigerate the dough. Thank for this wonderful recipe!!
I made this recipe with the 1/2 oil and 1/2 butter (because I was low on butter) but the end result tastes a little chalky -the dough looked great tho
What would you recommend to make them have the correct consistency but taste like a proper cookie?
Use all butter. Butter adds flavor and oil doesn’t.
GREAT!
DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELICIOUS! Unfortunately they were gone within minutes. I may or may not have hidden a few in the pantry in a baggie… inside a box of cereal that no one but me eats.
That’s amazing!! Haha I love it! So glad the cookies were a hit!
Wow! I used the chewy to for this recipe and I have to say, this batch was my best yet! Thank you!
Very good! Will make these again! Just the right amount of crunchy and soft!
The chocolate chip cookies were amazing! My husband keeps eating them! 5 Stars. Will be making them again, my new chocolate chip cookie recipe! Thank you!!
I’ve never been one to bake choco chip cookies; they all taste the same and are pretty underwhelming. But, my son said we should make some so I picked this recipe having tried a couple others from this site before with success. These cookies are amazing! The best I’ve ever tasted. Thank you for the recipe!
Oh that makes us so happy to hear!! Thanks for giving the cookies a try!
This cookie is perfection!
Hi! Could this recipe be made into a cookie cake? If so, do you know if the ingredient ratios/cook times would need to be adjusted? Thank you!
Yes, I’m sure it could!! It would definitely depend on the size of pan you are using… I’d say if this one recipe isn’t enough to fill the pan, you could double it. Or if it is too much, you could half it. Baking time will more than likely need to be adjusted too.
Very easy to make/bake (for a non pro baker👩🍳 like me😬). The result is soooooo yummy 🤤
These are incredible!
These are the best chocolate chip cookies out there! Really simple and easy to make!
So happy to hear you love this cookie recipe!!
Made these and they were devoured quickly. Very good. I use mini chocolate chips in mine
The dough itself is delicious!
Looks good!
Always my favorite chocolate chip recipe. And my dads! He always requests them! I make some and freeze them and my husband even likes eating them out of the freezer! 😋
Excellent cookies!
I’m always looking for new chocolate chip cookie recipes and these are SO good! 🍪
Beautifully done classic. Always yummy!
Can’t wait to try these…
These truly are one of the BEST recipes for CCC! Definitely a staple here at our house! They’re great for just eating by themselves, or dunked in milk. We always have to do a double batch, because they just don’t last long here HAHA!
These are soooo good!!
The cookie recipes are the best 🥰
This is one of my all time favorite chocolate chip recipe. So easy to make.
Soooooo good
Soft and chewy!
Wonderful recipe! Santa loves Chocolate Chip Cookies!
These are so good!
These cookies are the best!
Our go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe- They freeze really well, so we almost always have some in the house!
My go to chocolate chip cookie recipe. I use coconut oil just to give it a little extra flavor.
I love these cookies, this is the recipe I use that always turns out just right.
If you choose to use 1.5 cups of brown sugar, they still taste amazing but you might need to add couple teaspoons of flower. Still makes amazing cookies even if you don’t .
I have a question, is it a cup of butter that I can replace with a cup of oil? I want a gooey fluffy cookie. I baked these cookies today and they became flat and crunchy and chewy
These are sooo good!!
What oil? There’s no oil in the list of ingredients.
My go to chocolate chip cookie recipe – except with the oil/butter mix. I can’t recall how much oil used to be in the original recipe, could you post how much to use? Thanks so much – love these!
Hi there, this is our go-to chocolate chip recipe and we love it! It looks like the oil was taken out of the recipe. We use this recipe all the time, and the oil used to be on here, and in the directions, it still mentions oil. Can you send me the original recipe? Thanks!
I’ve been using this recipe for years and always come to the website for the recipe and I know that the oil amount use to be there! Lol can we please update that?! I want to say it was 1/4 cup but can’t remember!
Why is the oil no longer listed in the ingredients? How much oil?
We love this recipe, but it seems the print version doesn’t list oil? And it’s printing on two pages now. I lost the first printout I had for it, so we’re a little lost now!
Under ingredients I don’t see oil at all or the amount of it.
I have made this recipe dozens of times..everyone loves them! But i just noticed today that it says to mix in oil…but no where does it say how much? Ive been making it all this time without the oil 🤦🏼♀️
I don’t see where it says how much oil to add
I brought these to my in laws and they were great! Made exactly like you say
This is my family’s favorite chocolate chip recipe after decades of different chocolate chips. We’ve made these dozens of times. They’re the quintissential perfect cookie. We double the recipe and freeze the dough balls.
My preferences:
-Being careful to only mix until incorporated makes cookies that are more round.
-At 4300ft elevation with a gas stove we like to cook at 425 until just browned to be crispy on the outside and soft inside.
Aw, I’m glad you love the cookie recipe!! Thanks for sharing the tips and tricks.
Makes a very game-like cookie
2 questions.
How many cookies per serving for the nutritional fact chart?
Do you have variations for high altitude where regular cookie recipes come out flat?
It is for about 2 small-medium sized cookies. Obviously cookie size can change those nutrition facts … so if they are bigger cookies, the facts will be a bit more. And I don’t have a high altitude variation, but I’ve found this article to be really helpful when altering foods for high altitude: https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/learn/resources/high-altitude-baking
Love all your recipes, have not made all of them yet but am looking forward to making them. Thanks so much for posting them.
You’re welcome! I hope you enjoy them!
Hello there – so excited to make these, can you tell me what size scoop you use?
Yes, I usually use the medium size cookie scoop, but you can honestly use any size. I have made them with all the sizes before and they turn out delicious. You may have to slightly adjust baking times if you go bigger or smaller. Hope you enjoy the cookies!
Excellent recipe! I have made this recipe 3 times with raving reviews from everyone. This one is a keeper!!!
Yay!! I’m so happy to hear the cookies have been a hit!
We use this recipe all the time!!! It’s the one we use to deliver to people and the cookies always taste amazing
Toll House just meet it’s match. These cookies are wonderful.
I have made many chocolate chip cookie variations over the years and this is by far the best I have ever made. Absolutely flawless. I never needed to alter ingredients in any way or add extra flour (like I have had to for other recipes).
Oh thank you!! I’m so glad to hear that you love this recipe too!
This is such a great recipe to have on hand. Always a crowd pleaser!
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing recipe! Will surely have this again! It’s really easy to make and it tasted so delicious! Highly recommended!
These really are the BEST cookies ever. So chewy and full of yummy chocolate chips!
When you measure the flour which method do you use? The fluff flour then scoop with a spoon and then level off with a knife or do you just scoop with the measuring cup? These look so delicious! I just want to make sure I measure the flour correctly. 😊
Yes – I spoon the flour into my measuring cup and then level it off with a knife. You can measure the other way too but I feel like my measurement is more accurate when I spoon the flour into the cup and level it off. Hope this helps!
Chocolate chip cookies are like my ultimate favorite. So I’ve tried a lot of recipes over the years. This is definitely one of the bests. (I did use the suggestion of using more brown sugar than white – I love the flavor a little extra brown sugar gives to cookies.
Oh I’m so glad you love the cookies! Yes, that brown sugar flavor is sooo tasty!
BEST CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE RECIPE! The edges are crispy and the centers soft and gooey! My new go to recipe
Hooray! So glad you enjoy the cookies!
These are really good and half my family love them, the other half like my recipe better. 🤣

These are our family’s favorite chocolate chip cookies! Yum!!!

Such an easy, no-fuss recipe that’s delish and fun to do with the kiddos! Love that there’s extra tips and tricks to change it up or get just the right chewy/crispy texture.
Really easy and we’ve made it multiple times- we add a little more chips because who doesn’t want lots of chocolate chips!
I have been married almost 42 years and have tried recipe after recipe of what was named “The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies”…which turned out to be okay but not the best. Now, I have found these, and I truly now have The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies EVER and I will be making them many times a year! They were so easy and came out great. The best chocolate chips to use are truly the Guittard Milk Chocolate Chip. Thank you thank you for helping me finally get a great cookie!!!
You’re welcome!! I’m so happy you discovered and love the recipe. And yes, aren’t those Guittard chips THE best?! SO good!
Such a great basic chocolate chip cookie! Yum!
Pretty yummy chocolate chip cookies!
This just became my new. Go-to, No-fail chocolate chip cookie recipe!
These cookies are just the right amount of chewy while being soft and tender. Easy to make- I doubled the recipes and even snuck in some m&ms to a few of them for the kiddos!
These are my FAVORITE chocolate chip cookies! I love that I found them!!
Sooo yummy and chewy!! Definitely using this recipe from now on!!
Loved these! We added m&m’s and it was so yummy!
These are THE best chocolate chip cookies! I make them to put in bags doe the out of town guests at my daughters wedding. I had one person tell me that they were the best they’d ever had! Thank you!!!
I love to make these with my kids-they always turn out!
Easy to make. The best go to recipe for yummy chocolate chip cookies.
I was skeptical about these cookies because of the oil, but really and truly they are FANTASTIC! So soft and just the right amount of chew. Cook them a minute or two longer for a little crunch. Super awesome recipe!
Thank you!! So glad you love the cookie recipe. It’s definitely a favorite over here too. 🙂
These really are some of the best chocolate chip cookies! I make them bigger so they are thicker and they are amazing! Thanks for sharing!
Ever since we’ve tried this recipe we have never looked back! Hands down best chocolate chip cookie recipe! Even switched the flour for gluten free flour because I have celiac and it still turned out yummy!!!!
what gluten free flour did you use?
This has been our favorite chocolate chip recipe for a few years now! My teens and I all have the recipe memorized because we make them so much!!!
I just made this it was really great! I did guess on whether the brown sugar was supposed to be packed or not was it supposed to be? I kinda just over filled my measuring cup and didn’t pack it which tunes out nicely (actually over filled a half cup measure twice lol)
That sounds great. I usually loosely pack the brown sugar. So glad you enjoyed the cookie recipe!
I made these and I put it in for too long but I tried again and it tasted amazing my sister makes cookies for me but I decided to make for her cause she has been studying a lot but I also made for my whole family its amazing recipe<3333
Thanks so much for sharing! I’m sure your sister appreciated the kind gesture too. That was so thoughtful of you!
Thank you for sharing this recipe,i just successfully baked today. Just wondering if I can reduce the white sugar?😁 Thinking if it’s safe to make the white sugar 1/2cup and 1cup for brown sugar? The recipe is perfect for me but I find it too sweet, hoping I can possible reduce the sugar and keeping it still yummy.. hoping you’ll notice my comment 🙏 thank you 💕
Hi Ann! Congrats on successfully baking! Way to go! I haven’t tried this recipe with reducing the amount of sugar. You can certainly give it a try and see how it turns out. I’d maybe start with just 1/4 cup less and see how that turns out. And go from there…. again, I haven’t actually tried reducing the sugar. You’ll have to let us know how they turn out if you do make them that way.
I have been making these cookies on a weekly basis for several years and know the recipe by heart! I portion the batch into balls of dough then freeze them. Every night the toaster oven gets turned on and 3 cookies are baked so everyone gets a freshly baked cookie in their lunch the next day. These cookies come out chewy, a bit crispy on the edges with a nice bit of height to them. It feels so good to have ended the hunt for the best chocolate chip cookie recipe! Thank you so much for this!
Ok, that is amazing!! I think I need to start doing that too so I can have a fresh, warm cookie every night! 🙂 I’m so happy that you love the cookie recipe! Thanks for sharing.
I first made these a few years ago and they are still my favorite, my youngest son has always been so picky, yes, even about chocolate chip cookies, he loves this recipe. I have 3 grandbabies now, A grandson and granddaughter who are both two and a granddaughter that is a year old and I can’t wait to make these using Halloween m&ms! Thank you for this wonderful recipe 😊
Oh this makes my heart so happy to hear! Thank you so much for sharing. Yes, we love switching out or adding in M&M’s into these cookies. Halloween ones will be SO fun!
When you scoop up the cookies in step 3 of your instructions do you use a tablespoon of the dough? Can’t wait to try this recipe out🍪😋
It depends on how big we want the cookies. 😉 1 tablespoon will yield a smaller cookie, but that’s a great size still …. I typically use a cookie scoop, either the small or the medium depending on what size I am wanting to make them. Just watch the cookies and adjust the bake time slightly depending on how big you make them. Hope you enjoy the cookies!!
I have tried for years to make the Toll House Chocolate cookies and every attempt has a bust. Your recipe is FANTASTIC!!!!! Thank you for the recipe. Now if only I could keep my fingers out of the cookie jar, lol. Thank you
Oh you’re welcome! I’m so glad you love the recipe. I know, it’s almost impossible to eat just one. 😉
I love the way my cookies turned out!! Thank you so much
You’re welcome!! So glad you love the cookie recipe!
Cookies came out wonderful. LOVE IT AND SO SOFT!!!!
Yay!! I’m so happy to hear that! Glad you loved them.
MY COOCKIES CAME OUT SO SOFT AND YUMMY😋😋 I LOVE THE RECIPE. WILL DEFINITELY MAKE IT AGAIN.
Yay!! I’m so glad they turned out delicious. Thanks for sharing!
I have followed you for years and just love everything you post. I decided to make your Best Chocolate Chip Cookies, let me tell you, they were the bomb. Surprised how many cookies I was able to get out of just one batch. Once again thanks for sharing this recipe.
Oh you are so welcome! I am pretty partial to this recipe too ;), so I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed them so much!
Truly the BEST!!! I pride myself in being a “cookie maker” and trying new flavors and combinations. My daughter started making these and the REST was history! THIS IS A GO TO base for all cookies!
Awe, that makes me so happy to hear! I love a good go-to base for cookies as well. I’m so glad you liked this one!
I already have a really good chocolate chip cookie recipe that I have made for years. Everyone always raves about them and they say that they are the best chocolate chip cookies. Why on earth would I try this recipe???? … or so I thought!! Just do it. These are on a whole different level. They are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I ripped my other recipe into tiny pieces and threw it in the trash.
I am so glad you liked the recipe so much! That makes me so happy to hear. Thanks so much for your kind words and for trying it out! 🙂
Love all your recipes. Keep them coming. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for trying them out! I appreciate it! 🙂
Delicious I used the chewy version that you suggested everyone loved them thanks for this recipe
I’m so happy you loved them so much! Thanks for sharing!
Hi! Does the butter need to be room temp? Thanks.
Yes – room temperature would be the best for the butter in this recipe. Let me know how it turns out! 🙂
Looks and sounds great but of course there chocolate chip cookies !!!
It’s true – you can’t go wrong with chocolate chip cookies! Hope you enjoyed them!
I usually don’t comment on blog recipes but I really gotta say that these are by far the best cookies I’ve ever made (already made regular chocolate chip cookies and one week later white chocolate macadamia). I read through your tips to make them more chewy and they were still chewy 3 days after baking! I’m in love!
Yay!! Thank you so much for leaving the comment! I appreciate hearing that!
These are perfect cookies! I made with 1-1/2 c brown sugar and 1 c white sugar; 1/2 c salted butter, 1/2 c butter flavored crisco, lessened the salt to about 3/4 tsp. They stayed pretty much in ball form but SO soft and so far are staying that way. I used about 1/2 the dough then added 1 cup butterscotch chips and it pretty much crumbed apart, so I put it into a pan and made a giant cookie. PERFECT !!! Thank you !!!
How many grams of flour? Do you scoop flour or spoon it in cup and level off??
Thanks
I don’t have the gram measurement, but you can find a conversion calculator online to get that. I just scoop & shake a little, to get it leveled.
Just made these and I love them. Followed the recipe as printed. Love the flavor and texture. My prior go to was too buttery. The combination of oil and butter gave me the texture and flavor I was looking for.
Great! I am so glad to hear that! Thank you!
How can I get to a specific cookie recipe?
I have a search bar at the top of the home page, where you can search up any recipe or use the recipe box, where you can find all my recipes 😉

These turned out better than expected, so good!
My go to chocolate chip cookie recipe! I love that it has both oil and butter! Also, I sub out the milk chocolate chips for semi sweet. So good!
I’m making these for Christmas!
My go-to cookie recipe! So yummy and easy!

These are SO good! I love how quick and easy they are to make. I’ve never tried a recipe that used oil for chocolate chip cookies, but I love how they turn out. I even made it become my sisters favorite recipe too:) it’s my go to!
I literally will never use another chocolate chip cookie again. This is the best cookie I’ve ever had!! I get more compliments on these cookies than any other cookie!!
These really are the best! Loved getting a recipe card when I purchased from the shop. Always whipping that card out!
I made these because I promised my kids we would make cookies and I didn’t realize I didn’t have enough butter! Thankfully this recipe saved me. It has become my family’s favorite chocolate chip cookie— my kids’ friends are always asking for them!
By far and hands down my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. This is my go to recipe anytime I am craving a warm chocolate chip cookie. Such an easy recipe to throw together. These cookies turn out so soft. My kids request this every week.
Best recipe for chocolate chip cookies!!
Awe, thank you so much!! Glad you think so!
These are soooo chewy and delish
Glad you liked them! Thank you for letting me know!
The best indeed! They keep up really well. They stay soft and CHEWY FOR DAYS…if you can make them last that long. 😉 love all the recommendations based on your cookie preferences but don’t think this recipe needs modified.
I am glad you think so 🙂 Thank you so much for saying that!!
Why is your recipe for “big & chewy chocolate chip cookies” no longer available??? I haven’t tried this one yet, but the one I mentioned couldn’t be better.
I am constantly changing my site & recipes. I hope you will try this recipe. It is my favorite!
what size cookie scoop did you use 1 1/2 T?
I have a few different sizes that I like to use. You can’t go wrong with any of them. Just depends on how big you want them 🙂
These cookies taste amazing! but I don’t know what I’m doing wrong every time I ever make chocolate chip cookies they always turn out flat. Do you have any advice for what I should do next time?
I suggest googling “why my cookies are flat.” There are lots of reasons & you will know which reason, caused yours to turn out that way. I am sorry they did. I hope you find out what happened.
These cookies really are the best! I made recipe with semi sweet last time but did milk chocolate this time and have to say they are awesome!
The dough is a great base for whatever chips you like! Glad you like them! Thank you!
Could I make these into bars?
I have not tried with this specific recipe, but this is our favorite cookie bar recipe…https://lilluna.com/cookie-bars-recipe/.
Dear kristyn….I hv a c.chips cookies recipes using 250 gm butter and 6 tbs of oil. will it comes out to be a good cookies for me to try it. I hv’t try.
I haven’t tried, so not sure how they will turn out.
These are perfect when made with milk chocolate! ?
I prefer milk chocolate 🙂 Thank you!
TheSe were really good. I don’t love “chewy” cookies, so I was on the fence, especially because of the addition of oil versus shortening or all butter. But I think that they were delightfully crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. I made them in three different sizes: scoops 20/40/60. The big ones (20) were super tender and had a great texture, very soft. The smaller sizes were a little more crispy, but still soft in the centers. I put them in the fridge right after coming out of the oven to stop the baking and set faster (a tip I learned from A Bountiful Kitchen). They will definitely be a regular in my chocolate chip cookie rotation. ??
Yay!! I am glad you think so!! They never disappoint! Thank you!
Amazing recipe! We are partial to PB chocolate chip cookies, so I was a little reluctant when my son made these cookies. They turned out perfect and our whole family loved them!

These are my absolute FAVORITE cookies of all time! I could eat them 24/7!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this recipe. The original recipe is so delicious. The cookies are nice and soft. I’ve made it with 1 cup of butter instead of using 1/2 c oil and they turn out just as fantastic. I’ve also used almond extract in place of the vanilla with white chocolate chips. My family always asks me to bring these to every gathering we have. Its the easiest and best recipe that I’ve found.
These cookies are delicious! I’m currently pregnant and I’ve been craving delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies, plus I love to bake! So I’ve been trying different recipes but these are my new favorite! They are exactly how I like my cookies…. gooey and chocolatey! Definitely my new favorite recipe. Thanks!

Can your chocolate chip cookie recipe be made into bars?
I have not tried, but I don’t see why not? 🙂 Let me know how they turn out, if you try that! Thanks!
So very fabulous! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you think so!! And, glad to share! Thank you 🙂
I made these cookies today. I substitited Splenda sugar & Splenda Brown Sugar, & Hersheys Sugar Free Chocolate Chips. So soft, so good. Will be making these again. Thank you for sharing your recipe.
So glad to share!! Thanks for sharing what you did 🙂 I am glad you liked them.
I’m not usually one to go for chocolate chip cookies, but when I found this recipe…it’s all I ever bake! I love them. I’m actually about to bake some and was wondering if I wanted to add peanut butter, if that would work out and how much I would add?
I am happy to hear you love them!! I haven’t added peanut butter to this recipe, but I would maybe start with 1/2 cup? Let me know what you think!
How come i can’t “print ” your recipes. It closes out before I have a chance to print???
I am sorry, I wish I knew. I don’t have that problem on my end, so I’m not sure??
This is now my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe!!
Yay!! Love hearing that! Thank you so much for letting me know!
My family and friends LOVE these cookies! They are so soft, and they say that they are the best cookies they have EVER tasted! I love them too 🙂
I love to hear that! Thank you for sharing 🙂
These really are literally the best chocolate chip cookies. They are absolutely just the right amount of salty to off-set the sweet. I also use an organic milk chocolate wafer for the chocolate chips, resulting in an almost semi sweet flavor with a milk chocolate gooey texture. I am the favorite cookie baker of all my friends!
Sounds good!! Thank you for sharing that!
Is there an easy way to print tour recipes…they look super
Thank you!! You should see a print option in the recipe box, when the cursor is in it. Or, you could right click & try to print that way. Hope that helps!
OMG! These are amazing! I make them without fail every week for Shabbat. Delicious! The dough is the greatest dough to work with, and the cookies are just amazing… I can’t say enough about them! Never will I pin another cookies recipe. Thank you so much!
Thank you..that’s why we love them!!
Brought these to our ward dinner last night and they were gone in a flash. Thanks for a recipe with only one cube of margarine, helpful when you are running low@
You are so welcome!! I am glad they were a hit! And, yes, they are always gone so fast! Thanks for letting me know!
They look amazing me and my little one are going to make them now i’ll let you know how they are
They are our favorite! Hope you sure love them as much as we do!
I have a go-to chocolate chip recipe but will try yours. My question is can you add chopped nuts to this recipe? My family loves the chocolate chip and chopped nut mixture.
Of course 🙂 They are seriously the best! I hope your family loves them as much as we do!
These were my go too cookies before I became vegan. So today I decided to figure it out. Subbed the oil and butter for one cup of coconut oil. I think I should have melted a half of that, and flax eggs for eggs. They turned out amazing! By not melting the coconut oil, my dough is very dry and crumbly. But it bakes up perfect. Next time I will give it a shot.
Thank you for sharing that! Hopefully, that will help someone 🙂
I’ve made these cookies countless times now, and everyone LOVES them!!! They’re also delicious to make into ice cream cookie sandwiches. Thank you so much for this recipe it is delicious!
You are so welcome!! Aren’t they the best!? Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for this!! The best I’ve made:)
Yay!! Thank you for sharing & trying them!
I’m finding that I have to back the cookies longer, in high altitude. I’m in Salt Lake City and it’s about 4500 to 5000 ft high. Have you experienced that? I think that your cookie recipe is the best one I have found. I make about 10 dozen cookies every week and a half. My husband takes them to his volunteering job. They love them.
I haven’t lived in high altitude, but I know that is the case. I am so glad you like these!! We make them quite a bit, too! Thank you!
This has been my go to recipie since I found it several years ago. Just made it again for the millionth time (ok maybe a slight exaggeration) and they are just as good as the first time. I used to live in Salt Lake City and they turned out well that high above sea level. Now I’m in Las Vegas and they are still just as perfect. I’ve never seen a recipe do that transition so well. Thank you so much for sharing it!
You are so welcome!! This is our favorite & go-to recipe! Thank you so much!
These are amazing! My whole family thanks you for sharing this recipe.
They are so welcome!! They are our favorite! Thank you for giving them a try!
Amazing !!! My husband said he wishes I hadn’t made so many because he can’t stop eating them ! I made sure to stash some for myself !!! Thank you.
LOL!! That’s a good sign 🙂 Yes, I like to give some away, so I’m not doing the same! Thank you!
These cookies are amazing!!! I used sea salt caramel baking chips instead of chocolate chips. Delicious!!!
YUM!! I bet they were 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
I just made these and for some reason they came out cracked and had an odd after taste. I’m a super novice baker so I’m wondering what I messed up along the way! Any advice?
Oh, man, I’m not sure? You followed the recipe exactly?
How many does it make?
You could get a few dozen. But, it also depends on how big you make them 🙂
These are truly the Best chocolate chip cookies!! I will say, make sure you follow the directions. When it says cream butter and sugars……make sure you cream them. Then beat the eggs in until fluffy….do it. It’s important to mix it. I made the mistake once where I just dumped all the ingredients in the mixer and then scooped them on the cookie sheet and they were terrible! I mean, it was still edible, but you could tell it wasn’t right. I’ve been using your recipe for years that’s why I knew I did something wrong when I tasted the dumped in version. Great lesson learned, follow directions. These are really the best cookies I’ve ever made! I’ve been making cookies for over 25 years and this one is by far superior to any other recipe I’ve made. Thank you so much for sharing. This recipe will go into the recipe books for my kids when they get married or move out.
Awe, thank you!! And, I agree..it’s so important to follow directions! These are our favorite chocolate chip cookies!!I’m so glad you like them1 🙂
This is my go-to recipe. I typically do 1 cup white chocolate and 1 cup milk chocolate and they are to die for. I want to eat them all. I started taking them to my students when I make them so they don’t all sit in my house staring at me. Love, love, love this recipe!
Hi! Just wondering how many cookies this recipe makes 🙂 Thanks!
You could get a few dozen to a couple dozen or even more, if you made mini ones. It just depends on how big or small you make them. I hope you enjoy!!
I’m baking these cookies for a birthday celebration, and I am eager to make them as perfect as possible! With that said, which would be preferred: light brown sugar or dark brown sugar? I’ve been baking for about a year, so I’m still only a bit of a beginner. Thank you! xx
They would be a hit! I always use light brown sugar, unless it says otherwise. Hope that helps & good luck!
With a medium cookie scoop, I found I had to cook these for 12 minutes. Otherwise they were raw dough inside. They tasted just okay. I don’t like the vegetable oil flavor in there. Next time will try with all butter…just afraid that will lead to them being not as soft when fully cooled.
Great recipe, great cookie. Stuck with your ingredients and didn’t change anything. This is the cookie recipe I’ve been waiting for. Thanks!
So happy to hear that! Thanks so much for letting me know! It’s our favorite too!
Does the dough need to chill before baking? Also do you bake the dough in balls that flatten as they bake or make disks before baking?
No, it does not need to be chilled and I leave it in balls. They will flatten out as they bake 🙂 Enjoy!
Hi how much dough per cookie do I put on the tray before baking? Thanks
I have a cookie scooper or you could use a spoonful to make the perfect size. Hope that helps! Thanks!
My favorite to make! I use GF flour and they are still amazing
Yay!! That’s good to know, thank you for sharing!!
Do I grease the pan first ?
Only if you need to. I use non-stick pans, so I don’t need to, but you may. Hope that helps!
Yummy! This recipe was awesome! Only thing I did differently was cook the cookies for 10-11 minutes. Plus I used half white chocolate chips and half milk chocolate chips. Delicious!
Oh, I love white chocolate chips, too! Thanks so much for sharing and trying these!!
I’ve been baking cookies for years. Seriously the best cookie EVER! Made 3 batches and turns out EVERY SINGLE TIME!!
That’s why I LOVE it!!! Thanks so much for sharing!!
These were absolutely amazing. I brought them to work and everyone loved them. Thanks for the recipe!
Yay!!! I’m so glad 🙂 Thank you for sharing!!
Awesome cookies! And mine looked just like the picture! I have tried lots of recipes and now I need to look no more! Thank you!!
I’m so glad to hear that!! We love this recipe, too!! Thank you so much for letting me know 🙂
Is this 1 cup of pack brown sugar or don’t pack the brown sugar?
I don’t really pack it down 🙂 Hope that helps!! Hope you like these!! They really are the best!
I added 1/4 cup hot chocolate mix, an extra egg, and of the flour used, I used 1 cup wheat flour. I also then cooked it 2 minutes longer. They where amazing! They are also amazing just following this recipe! I have loved it both ways!
That sounds great! I’ll have to try that! Thanks for sharing!!
I made these cookies yesterday and my daughter said they were the best chocolate chip cookies she had ever eaten!
Oh, she’s sweet!! Tell her thank you so much and they’re our fav too!! Thanks so much!!
I’ve made numerous recipes over the past 2 months for chocolate chip cookies… my husband has a crazy sweet tooth, okay I have just as big of one 😉 but they never seem to turn out quite to our liking but this recipe… NAILED it!! I’m adding this to my all-time favorites!!
Yay!! I’m so glad!! This is our favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe!! Thank you for letting me know!
Can I used this recipe for peanut butter cookies and will they come out just as soft?
I haven’t used it for peanut butter cookies, but I don’t see why not. Here is another peanut butter cookie recipe that is great 🙂 https://lilluna.com/soft-peanut-butter-cookies/
These are so yummy!! I was wondering how do I get them flatter .. they were more puffy didnt spread. I had to press them some which is so biggy but they stay in a ball just expanded some. I did use coconut oil instead.
I haven’t used coconut oil before, so I’m not sure how that changes the recipe. Mine are more puffy, than flat, too. You could just press them more. Hope that helps! Thanks so much for giving them a try!!
Hello there. I was just wondering how many cookies will this recipe make. If you could reply back that would be awesome. Thanks.
You could get 3-4 dozen, depending on how big or small you make them. I hope that helps!!! Thanks so much for stopping by!
Thank you very much for this recipe. It is just sooooooo good! I’m definitely going to use this recipe all the time!
softened or melted butter?
If I know I’m baking, I’ll put the butter on the counter to soften. I always use softened butter. Hope that helps! Thanks so much!
Can I use 1/2 cup melted butter in place of the oil?
I haven’t tried that, so I’m not sure how they’d turn out without the oil. You can try unsweetened applesauce. Hope that helps 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
How many does the recipe serve?
It makes close to 3 dozen. Hope that helps! Thanks for stopping by!
These really are the best! If they’re turning out oily, maybe try creaming the butter and sugars for longer – a few minutes, really. So hard to mess them up!
Thank you Kelsea! SO glad you like them! We like them too 😉
Which oil shall I use
What oil shall I use can you reply asap
Xx
Vegetable Oil 🙂 Hope you like them!!
I can’t have butter but I can have margarine. Would substituting butter for magarine ruin the recipe or would it be okay?
Thank you
It shouldn’t:) Let me know what you think! They really are the best!!
So I’m a few years later to the party it looks like, but I wanted to let you know how much I adore this recipe!!! I’ve been looking for a recipe that turns out consistent results each time I bake it, as well as on my different types of cookie sheets – this one delivers!!! I use a scant 3 cups white whole wheat flour, and canola oil. Today I tried melted coconut oil, and the cookies aren’t spreading quite as much as I’d like, but it is a cool, rainy day, unlike the relatively warm, humid days we’ve had lately. I also deviate from your original recipe in that I only use 1/4 c white sugar. Thank you for such an awesome recipe!!
You’re so welcome, Nancy!! I love hearing what changes everyone makes, to fit their own likes and tastes!! These are the best!!!
Do you think I could make this recipe with all “white whole wheat” flour? I’ve not tried this flour in anything since my wife bought it.
Thanks!
John
I make these with white whole wheat flour and they turn out beautifully! I use a scant 3 cups, however, as the whole wheat flour seems to absorb more liquid.
That’s good to know..thank you Nancy!!
I haven’t tried that, so I honestly couldn’t tell you. I don’t see why they wouldn’t work out. I know a lot of people like to use that instead. I’d love to know if you make them with that flour!!
My go-to recipe every time!! I just make sure to add a little extra flour so they don’t flatten out as much. In fact, so much extra flour that the dough is slightly crumbly and they’re super fat and the middle stays yummy. And I use 75% dark chips to be sassy. 😛
Haha..I like that, to be sassy!! It is our go to recipe, too..they’re the best!! Thanks for sharing!
Hello! I’m on the Great Cookie Recipe hunt and I’m trying this recipe next! So far my favorite has been a cream cheese chocolate chip cookie but I need a great go to recipe that uses ingredients I usually have at home. Question for you though – salted or unsalted butter? I can’t believe no one else has asked!
This is the best chocolate chip cookie recipe:) I always use unsalted butter when baking:) Hope you like them!! Thank you!
Shouldn’t you chill the dough first?
No need to chill for this recipe. 😉
This recipe just popped up on my Facebook feed and having nothing better to do (& having all the ingredients) thought I’d give them a go, really easy to make and absolutely delicious. Not sure these are going to last until Tuesday when I was planning on taking them into the office! Thanks Lil Luna!
Thanks for the kind words! I’m so glad you like the recipe. We make these at least once a month – they’re the best. I hope you can find more recipes on the site that you enjoy as well. 😉
These are wonderful! I made them for my husband to bring to work. I did one batch as-is and another substituting the last cup of flour for oats. They were both delicious, thanks!!
So glad you liked them!! 😀
Yep! You win! Loved these! I took to our church Bible Study last night, and they were a hit. We had everyone bring their Fav. recipe of Chocolate chip cookies, and these WERE IT, if I can say so myself!
I wonder if it’s the baking powder that makes them soft kinda thick? Never seen chocolate chip cookie recipe with backing powder…
Love your stuff!
My sister made these and they are wonderful! This is the best chocolate chip cookie recipe ever! This is our new go to recipe
I’m not sure what everyone is talking about but I dont think the recipe is that great. I had to bake them for 13 minutes and they don’t taste any different than the recipe that’s on the toll house chocolate chip bag. Just my opinion..
I’m sorry you didn’t think they were that great. We’ve tried SO many recipes over the years and this one continues to be everyone’s favorite. Always so soft and yummy!
I cannot tell you enough how Much I love these cookies. I found this recipe about a month a ago and I make at least a batch of these a week. These beat all store Bought or bakery bought cookies I have ever had. My fiancé, who is the most critical cookie connisuer, says that these are his favorite without a doubt. Thank you!
Hi I have made this recipe a dozen times and it’s delicious! But I was wondering if I could use the recipe to make a half sheet cookie cake?
Loved these. So chewy and good. Love all the chocolate chips. Definitely a keeper. Thanks for the recipe.
You are so welcome!! I am so glad you like them!!
Hi I’ve made these cookies a dozen times and they are delicious. But I was wondering if I could use this recipe to make a half sheet size cookie cake?
Dear God, woman, these are the best cookies I’ve ever made! Not only did they come out looking just like your pictures (which, let’s be honest, never happens), but they tasted as good as they look. I made a half batch from the quantities you posted, and they came out perfect. Soft, chewy, gooey, heavenly! A++ to you!! I am taking the few that I haven’t already gobbled up to a dinner party this evening, and I will never waste my time on pre-made Toll House dough again! Thanks SO much for sharing this recipe!!
Literally just took these out of the oven. SO tasty. The only change I made was that I was out of brown sugar so I had to make some with white sugar and molasses (so the dough had a slight molassessy taste, but it cooked out)
I also had to bake mine for 3-4 minutes longer than your recipe stated. But I love the overall taste of the cookie! Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and doughy on the inside. PERFECT level of saltiness and sweetness 🙂 Keeper for sure. Thanks so much 😀
I used coconut oil instead of regular oil and they were FANTASTIC!!!
I’ll have to try Coconut oil next time I make them. Thanks for the idea. 😉
i thought I read somewhere to refrigerate before baking, but I’m not seeing it in the recipe. Do I refrigerate and if so for how long?
Thanks!
No need to refrigerate before baking for this recipe. 😉
Can I use coconut oil?
About how many cookies does the batch make per serving?
This makes about 3 dozen. 😉
Looking for a cookie recipe to bake and leave for Santa this Christmas! I just had 1 question, do I need to change anything for being at a higher altitude? I’m 5000 feet above sea level and I usually need to alter my baking recipes a a little bit…
I really like these cookies there sooooo good just made some and they melted in my mouth! Im going to rec emend these to my friends and family!!! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by. SO glad you like them. They’re definitely our favorite too!!
I’m SO glad you like them!! They’re definitely our favorites. 🙂
I made these and they were very good, but then my daughter made them and used 1 tablespoon of vanilla by accident and we ate them. OMG! Amazing!! Our guests went crazy over them.
Never a bad idea to add some extra vanilla. I often add almond extract too – YUM!!
I made this for my boyfriend and he ate them all in one sitting. Not a day goes by where he doesn’t ask me to make them again!
I always make this recipe and its amazing. They always come out perfect and delicious. Today I made them and they weren’t coming out quite right, so I made them again paying close attention to ingredients, and they again came out not right. I don’t know what’s happened. They’re usualy perfect. None of my ingredients seem bad, and ive made many things today with the same ingredients.
Hmmmm – that is so weird. I’m not sure what has happened. Did you use softened butter? And what was wrong with them?
Yea I did everything the same. Usually they thin out a bit and look like your pictures with a little bit of wrinkling. This time they stayed puffed up, even when pressed down, and they got super crinkly and harder. But I didn’t bake then longer, any less they would have been raw. They had started to burn before fully cooked, and it was at the same temperature too. Usualy they stay soft for days, these crisped up instantly. I made the batter twice too. It makes me wonder if I had a bad batch of eggs or something and it didn’t affect the other recipes
They were also not as flavorful as usual. So it seems like I added extra flour, but I didnt.
You should check your oven temperature with an oven thermometer. I had a friend whose oven mysteriously broke and ran WAY hotter than the dial stated.
It was probably the baking powder. It loses its effectiveness as it ages.
I must have done something wrong the dough is very dry and after 7.5 min cookies are still raw. Recipe doesn’t say but I’m assuming I was supposed to add a bag of chocolate chips
The milk chocolate chips are part of the remaining ingredients. 😉 And the dough should not be dry at all… if at 7.5 minutes they are still raw I would try a few more minutes. 😉
I’ve told you before — these are the BEST chocolate chip cookies. I’m going to make them tomorrow and try something different – stuff them with a Dove chocolate!! I’ll let you know how it turns out!! I may have to bake a tad bit longer since they’ll be bigger. Thanks for all you do!!
How did it go adding the Dove?? Sounds like it would be amazing!!
AMAZING!! But you can’t go wrong with this recipe – it’s my ‘go to’ very favorite chocolate chip recipe!! Thank you!! (I made the role batch for our missionaries and they keep raving to me — every week!! — about them!!) Thank you – again!
LOVE it!! And I’m sure the missionaries love you for feeding them treats. 🙂
What kind of flour did you use? 🙂 was it all-purpose-flour?
Yes. 🙂 I use regular all-purpose flour in most recipes and will note whether or not it’s cake flour or something else. 😉
Hi I was wondering about the temp. It says 350, but as I’m from the UK I don’t know whether that is Celsius or Fahrenheit and what type of oven you are using. I have a fan assisted oven so do you know what the Celsius temp would be to bake these at?
350 converts to 180
Quick question: Would it be possible to freeze the dough (already scooped into portions) so you could make just 2-3 cookies whenever you crave them? Because I can see myself sitting there eating the whole batch right away 🙂
LOL!! To be honest, I haven’t ever tried to freeze them. I think it would work but you’d need to let them thaw completely before baking. 😉
I will try it and let you know how it worked out!
I love these cookies! I actually substitute margarine for the butter and a combo of canola and olive oils … I double the batch and was able to freeze half for baking later. I love the soft chewy goodness! It’s the ONLY recipe I use for Chocolate Chip Cookies ????
These are seriously the best chocolate chip cookies ive ever had!! Thank you so much for sharing..
Oh, I LOVE your comment!! So glad they were a hit. 🙂
These cookies are perfect. Just perfect. So incredibly soft, and absolutely delectable!
So easy and quick to make, too – great for “I really want to make some something delicious, but also want to be able to sit down for a couple minutes while the baby naps.”
This recipe does make about 6 dozen cookies, so those who don’t want so many of these sinfully good things sitting around might want to halve it.
Using my medium cookie scoop I get a little over 3 dozen, so if you do them smaller you can definitely get close to 6 dozen. SO glad you liked them. They are definitely my GO TO cookie recipe and we’ve been using it for years. 🙂
This cookie recipe is AMAZING!!!! I use coconut oil in the solid for instead of regular oil. And I have cut the sugar way down. And the BEST milk chocolate chips I think are from Guittard!!! AMAZING!!!! My go to chocolate chip cookie recipe now!!!! Thank you. 🙂
Ooooh… will have to give coconut oil a try next time. So glad they were amazing and a new favorite. We make them all the time! Thanks for stopping by!! XO
None of the recipes call for sifted flour. Does that mean that it is a given that you do anyway… ? Or that you don’t? Or that you lightly scoop it ? ….. or what do you think?
If it needs to be sifted I will usually state so. For these cookies, just scoop into your measuring cups and level out – no need to sift. 😉
This has been my go to choColate chip recIpe sInce finding it on pinterest 3 Years ago! It’s the best and sO very easY! Thank you!
Awe, I am so glad!! Thank you for trying them 3 years ago!!
This is my go-to cookie recipe! At 14 years old, I am known as the best baker in the family thanks to amazing recipes like this! I made these for a bake sale, and one man said “You’re going to make your husband very happy if you can bake like this!” These are just overall amazing cookies! I have never had any better!
You are so sweet, Alyssa! I’m so glad you like them. They are definitely my favorite too! And that man is right… you’ll have one happy hubby if you learn how to bake well! 😀
I have been cooking it almost 20 minutes but It is still dough
These didn’t turn out as I expected! I used raw brown sugar and caster sugar for sugar. They’re very crispy and hard, not soft n chewy 🙁
I discovered this recipe last fall and have probably made it a dozen times since. They have always come out perfectly for me. I don’t know if I will ever make another chocolate chip cookie recipe. I’m wondering if you’ve ever made these into a chocolate cookie? If I could add a chocolate version of this to my cookie arsenal, I would never look for another recipe again. A chocolate version would be amazing with white chips or mint chips, chopped Andes mints, etc. Any thoughts, or have you tried it?
I’ve made these several times now and they’re awesome. Thanks for the recipe! I use coconut oil (melted) for the oil, and it gives them a great hint of coconut. SO good. And the dough is to die for.
I’m so happy someone mentioned coconut oil. I’m using that now ????
this is my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe! its soo goad. would it be okay if i made a big thick cookie?
What kind of oil????????
Yea, what kind of oil? I just made them with canola oil and they taste disgusting and have the worst texture!
Vegetable oil 🙂
I clicked on this already having a chocolate chip recipe in mind that I thought was the best and ironically its the same one! 🙂 the cookies come out with a much better texture with this recipe and I seriously recommend it above any other recipe because it turns out great everytime (if made correctly lol)
Would there be a different in the amount if using applesauce in place of oil as suggested earlier? I just made these tonight, and the cookies just ran across the pan, didn’t fluff up at all. Not sure what I did 🙁
Hi Tristen. Unfortunately, I’ve never tried using applesauce before. 🙁 I haven’t had anyone have this problem, but if you figure out the right conversion rate let me know so I can add it to the post for others to use. Sorry about that!
Why 1/2 c oil and 1/2 c butter and not 1 whole cup butter? Have you found you really like the half oil/half butter better? What is the difference?
Thank you for sharing this recipe! It really is the best cookie recipe I’ve ever tried 🙂
Everyone loved it and my super health-conscious friend even asked for more!! Will bake again using different toppings!
I also used butter instead of oil.
Yay! SO glad you liked them as well as your friends! 😀
Wow! Can’t believe there aren’t more comments on these! These are by far my favorite cookies that I’ve ever made!!! Possibly my facorite that I’ve ever had. They’re just PERFECT!!! Honestly I wouldn’t change a single thing. Sooo soft. This sounds weird but they taste like baked cookie dough, obviously that’s what all cookies are but normally the dough is better than the cookies, not in this case! We love how you can actually taste all the ingredients. I don’t understand what makes these cookies so great, since the ingredients are so basic, but I don’t think I’ll ever try a different recipe again, everything will now have to try to love up to this! Officially obsessed.
SO glad you love this cookie recipe as much as we do. It seriously our favorite ever!! I use it as the cookie base for every Cookie-related recipe I do!! 😀
is Semisweet CC ok
Of course! 🙂
Chocolate chip cookies will always be yummy, but these feel waaaayyy too oily and the cooking time should be longer. It’s still practically dough inside 🙁
So sorry you had a problem. Did you use the right amount of flour? I’ve never had them come out oily. I would also trying baking a minute or two longer if you thought they were dough-y. :/
what kind of oil did you use?
I used vegetable oil 🙂
Are you by any chance in Texas? Mine came out the same exact way and needed 9-10 minutes to cook.
I just made your chocolate chips cookies and my husband loved them!! Better than any other recipe that I have tried!! They turned out perfect!!
I made these today with my kids. I used all butter instead of butter and oil and they were a big hit with everyone.
Greetings from London England! Just wanted to let you know that I have had the worst week imaginable, but today I stumbled across your lovely blog and this recipe which blew my mind and made the memories of the last week melt away in chocolatey goodness! Thank you!! xxx
Hi Lizzie,
Please let me know what gas mark you used, having trouble figuring out how 350 should be converted. Thank you x
Hi there! I’m from the U.S but I’ve traveled to visit family in the U.K and I believe gas mark 4 is equivalent 350 degrees Fahrenheit. 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
I tried these today as a dessert for our early thanksgiving and These are amazing!! I substituted milk chocolate for white chocolate though but it was great. Thank you so much for the wonderful post!
Hi! I found your blog via Pinterest… Made these cookies tonight and they were great!!
Made these today, super good! Thank you! I have another recipe I found that is very similar just a little less crispy or no crisp…must have less oil…anyhow it’s really really good too! Email me if you want me to type you the recipe (from a magazine article).
I just made these cookies Gluten Free and Dairy Free, and they turned into perfect little chocolate chip cookie puff delights. Thanks so much for this recipe!!!
I’m new to gluten free, what flour did you use?
So YUMMY!!! Love the photography! Would LOVE it if you would link this project up at my brand new Trendy Tuesday party going on right now!! http://www.sweetlittlegals.com/2012/05/trendy-tuesday-1.html
they look so good!
Those cookies look so good! I pinned them so I can make them next weekend for a memorial day party!
Let me know how they go. I like to see what others think of it. 🙂 And have fun for your memorial day party! 😀
That is my recipe!
I use whole wheat for part of the flour, and applesauce for the oil- but these are the best- we make this recipe all the time 🙂 I was going to make it tonight and I did not even know it was just Choc. Chip Day a few days ago! 🙂
That’s too funny!! We got the recipe from a family friend years ago and it’s our FAV!! Every once in awhile we (my mom and sisters) will try a new chocolate chip cookie recipe, and then we always ask ourselves why cuz this one can’t be beaten! It’s the BEST!! Maybe one of these days I will try the healthy version. 🙂
OMG! These are delicious! Just finished baking some. For yeats, I have stuck to my tried and true Nestle Tollhouse recipe. But these will be my go to cookie now! Even the dough tastes better…=)
I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE hearing that, Jill!! Like I said, we’ve tried so many recipes but we keep coming back to this one. It’s just way too good!! SO glad you like it. 🙂
yum nothing beats a good chocolate chip cookie base.
You’re right!! And this is the one I use for all cookie recipes. 😀
These cookies look so yummy and chewy! We’d love for you to share at our Tasty Tuesday linky !
Maybe I am just missing it somewhere but where is the original chocolate chip cookie recipe? I only see the 4 links for the variations! THANKS!
I see it now! If I went to your website from google reader it wasn’t there but if I just went to your site it was! Weird!! But glad it is there!!
YUM!!! I think I will celebrate by eating chocolate chips out of the bag all day! ;D
So, did you celebrate by eating chocolate chips out of the bag?? I’d by lying if I said I didn’t do that occasionally! 😉
My absolute favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe ever. Make sure to bake for a short time like the recipe says as They are best slightly underbaked. I also love to add m&ms and semisweet chocolate chips. So so so yummy!!!
Great options! Thank you so much for sharing that!
Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that! Not sure what could have gone wrong. I hope you’ll give them another try and hopefully, they’ll turn out, because they truly are the best!
Thanks for giving them a try. I haven’t had them taste like that, but you could definitely lower the amount 🙂
Thank you for trying them 🙂
