If we need an easy dessert that feels like we tried harder than we did, we make our easy Apple Crisp. It’s one bowl, one pan, and it bakes up smelling so good that people start wandering into the kitchen asking when it’ll be ready.

Fortunately, this recipe is beyond simple! You toss the apples in the pan, stir together a quick oat topping, and the oven does the rest.

And let’s be honest, the best part is serving it warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. It’s simple, it feeds a crowd, and it’s the kind of dessert everyone goes back for.

If you love apple desserts, try Apple Pie, Apple Dump Cake, Apple Cinnamon Muffins, and Caramel Apple Dip.

Why you’ll love it + Why it works:

  • Simple Ingredients: This recipe uses pantry staples and fresh apples.
  • Perfect for Gatherings: A 9×13 pan makes enough for holidays and family dinners.
  • Tender Apples: The apples bake into a soft filling with warm cinnamon flavor.
  • Crispy Topping: Oats and brown sugar create a sweet topping with great texture.
Slice apples, spices, butter, and oats measured and ready for baking.

Easy Apple Crisp Ingredients

  • Apples (10 cups): Creates the soft, sweet filling. We love using Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a combination for great flavor.
  • Sugar (1 cup): Sweetens the apple filling.
  • All-Purpose Flour (2-3 tablespoons): Helps thicken the juices released from the apples.
  • Cinnamon (1 teaspoon): Adds warm flavor that pairs perfectly with apples.
  • Water (½ cup): Helps soften the apples while baking.
  • Quick Cooking Oats (1 cup): Adds texture and creates a classic crisp topping.
  • All-Purpose Flour (1 cup): Helps form the crumble topping.
  • Brown Sugar (1 cup, packed): Adds sweetness and rich flavor to the topping.
  • Baking Powder (¼ teaspoon): Gives a little lift to the topping.
  • Baking Soda (¼ teaspoon): Helps create texture in the crisp topping.
  • Butter (½ cup, melted): Adds richness and helps create a golden topping.

Kristyn’s Recipe Tips

  • Use a mix of apples (like Granny Smith + Honeycrisp) for the best sweet-tart flavor and texture.
  • Slice apples evenly so they bake at the same rate.
  • If your apples are extra juicy, use 3 tablespoons flour to help thicken the filling.
  • Let the crisp rest 10 minutes after baking so the filling sets up a bit.
  • Make-ahead tip: bake, cool, then rewarm in the oven before serving.

Just wondering– the ingredients list has 2-3 Tbsp of flour to be mixed into sugar cinnamon mixture that will be sprinkled over apples, but the instructions said to mix 1 Tbps of flour into the sugar cinnamon mixture. Which amount is correct?

i dont get what you mean by cover up the topping? It is supposed to dry out some? Mine is super thick, and unspreadable and I followed everything in your steps. I usually do it different, but had no lemon juice this time. so i thought i would check this one out.

      2. Kristyn Merkley says:

I’m sorry it is. Not sure why that would happen. I just mean cover the apples with the topping. Nothing needs to be covered. Hopefully, it turned out 🙂

    2. Cherie says:

What is 2-3 TB flour? I have no idea what TB is…

      1. Kristyn Merkley says:

        TB is tablespoon 🙂 Enjoy!!
