Caramel Apple Bites are one of our favorite quick treats when we want something fun, cute, and easy for a party. Itโ€™s the best sweet-and-salty combo, a pretzel snap, a warm melty Rolo, and a crisp bite of apple on top. No messy caramel dipping, no complicated steps, and theyโ€™re ready fast.

We love making these for fall parties, Halloween trays, or anytime we need a simple dessert that feels festive. Set them out on a platter and they disappear. Everyone loves them!!

Why you’ll love them + Why they work:

  • So simple. Easy sweet-and-salty treat with just a few ingredients.
  • No mess! No caramel dipping mess, Rolos do the work.
  • Party perfect. Perfect bite-size dessert for parties and holidays.
  • Short bake softens Rolos perfectly. Just enough heat to stick without turning them into a puddle.
  • Pretzels add crunch and balance. The salty base keeps the bites from being overly sweet.

Caramel Apple Bites Ingredients

  • 1-2ย cupsย pretzel snaps,ย (the square pretzels): The crunchy salty base that holds everything. If you can’t find the pretzel snaps (waffle pretzels), then pretzel twists can be used.
  • 1ย bag Rolo candy: Provides the caramel and chocolate layer, and melts just enough to stick (or a bag of Brach soft caramels).
  • 4ย apples,ย cut into slices, then cut into bite-size pieces: Adds crisp freshness and makes these feel like caramel apples in bite form. We used tart Granny Smith apples, but McIntosh, Pink Lady, Honeycrisp, Empire, Cortland, or Braeburn apples can be used.
  • toothpicks: Makes them easy to pick up, serve, and eat.

    Notes

    Recipe Tips.
    • If you can’t find pretzel snaps, use pretzel twists.
    • I like how the tart Granny Smith apples taste with the sweet chocolate, but McIntosh, Pink Lady, Honeycrisp, Empire, Cortland, or Braeburn apples can be used.
    • If you’re not serving this snack right away, treat the apple slices with lemon juice or Balls Fresh Fruit Powder to keep them from browning.
Make ahead of time. You can make these up to 2 hours before serving them; store them covered in the fridge until ready to set out and serve.
Storeย leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge, where they should stay edible for 2-3 days.

    Recipe FAQ

What variety of apples is best?

We like using tart Granny Smith apples to help balance out the sweetness of the Rolo candy, but any type of apple can be used.

    Prevent apples from browning?

Once the apples have been cut, the oxidation process begins, and the apples will eventually brown. To help slow down the process, sprinkle the sliced apples with Balls Fresh Fruit Powder, or dip them in lemon juice.

How to store mini caramel apple bites?

We like to place any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge, where they should stay edible for 2-3 days.

      1. Lil' Luna Team says:

Each Rolo is typically wrapped in foil, that direction is just a reminder to unwrap them before putting them on the pretzels.
