Our Favorite Fruit Pizza Ever!

My mom and aunts are famous for so many desserts, but one of them is this Fruit Pizza recipe (along with Cinnamon Rolls, Banana Bars, and Cinnamon Bread)!

I’ve made sugar cookie Fruit Pizza countless times, and it is now a favorite for my kids. We make it in the summer, for special occasions and whenever we are craving a sweet, cool treat.

The crust of this pizza is like a giant sugar cookie! The frosting is sweet and tangy with cream cheese and pineapple juice.

Like any Fruit Pizza, you can completely customize it with the fruit and fresh berries that YOU love. We always add strawberries, pineapple, kiwi, and bananas – but the possibilities of fruit toppings are endless!

How to Make Fruit Pizza

This delicious dessert is so easy!

SUGAR COOKIE CRUST. In a large bowl cream together butter, sugar and egg. Mix flour, cream of tarter, baking soda and salt. Add the dry ingredients to creamed mixture.

ROLL. Dip hands in flour and spread dough onto a lightly greased pizza pan in a circle making sure to leave 1-2 inches around the edges (the dough will spread as it bakes).

BAKE. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes. cool.

FROSTING. Cream together cream cheese, sugar, and pineapple juice. Spread over cookie crust.

FRUIT. Right before serving slice the fruit and decorate the top of the pizza. (Dip bananas in pineapple juice to keep from getting dark.) Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Store bought crust. If you don’t have time to make a homemade crust you can easily grab a package of sugar cookie dough from the market. Heat the oven to 375°F. Press the dough into the pan and bake for about 13 minutes.

Recipe Tips

No sticking. Don’t forget to to spray the pan with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper. This will make it super easy to remove each slice without worrying that it will stick to the pan.

Frosting. Make sure that the crust cools completely before adding the frosting on.

Slicing the pizza. Just like with regular pizza, use a round pizza cutter to slice this dessert. A large kitchen knife will also work.

Brown fruit. Treating the slices of fruit with lemon juice or Ball’s Fresh Fruit powder before placing them on the pizza will help keep the fruit from browning.

Soggy crust. The cookie crust will hold up well without becoming soggy for several hours. However, the longer it is stored the mushier the crust will become.

More Toppings

Most soft fresh fruit can work well on this Fruit Pizza. Aside from what we used in this recipe you can use:

  • apricots
  • peaches
  • mangoes
  • sliced grapes
  • mandarin oranges
  • thinly sliced apples

Use the various fruits to create beautiful designs on the pizza.

  • Patriotic– Perfect for Memorial day or 4th of July: Use a red fruit like strawberries or raspberries, blueberries and bananas.
  • Christmas: Red fruit with kiwis and accent with a bright fruit like mandarin oranges or pineapple.
  • Rainbow: Ether start at the center with red fruit and work outward, or line the perimeter with red and work inward. Use layers of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple fruits.
  • Different designs: Use different colored fruit to create stripes, circles/spiral pattern, medallion patterns, or just go crazy and pile the fruit on willy nilly.
  • Change up the frosting: Instead of the cream cheese filling use different flavored pudding, nutella, Lemon Curd, yogurt, or your favorite Fruit Dip.

Making Ahead + Storing

Making ahead of time. Prepare most of the ingredients a day beforehand, but don’t assemble the pizza until 2-3 hours before serving. If you need to store the pizza for a couple of hours, cover loosely and keep it in the fridge before serving.

  • Crust – cook, cool and cover. Store at room temperature.
  • Frosting – store in an airtight container in the fridge.
  • Sliced fruit – store in separate containers in the fridge. Be cautious of fruits that become soggy or brown quickly. I suggest not cutting those until you assemble the pizza.

STORE. Leftover pizza can be covered and stored in the fridge for a day or so. The fruit and crust will become more and more mushy the longer it’s stored, so it’s best to eat leftovers fairly quickly.

Now this is a homerun! It is a quick treat that is super easy to make and looks as good as it tastes! I love how it’s not overly sweet. The pineapple juice adds the perfect element to both the cream cheese base and the bananas! I always have fun decorating it with my kids! I must have made it 3 times the first week that I made it.
