Homemade sweet and salty Chex mix

Who doesn’t love a good munchable?! When I’m craving something to snack on I often have a hard time deciding “sweet” or “salty”. Well with this tasty Sweet and Salty Chex Mix you can have the best of both worlds! It’s a good alternative to our Chex Mix and Sweet Chex Mix.

Serve this up in a large bowl for a movie munchy, party appetizer, or set it out as an afterschool snack. This snack mix is perfectly customizable and completely giftable!

I like to divide it up into smaller Ziploc baggies for a quick grab-and-go snack. It has a good shelf life too which makes it even better!

Try mixing in some holiday-themed M&Ms or small candies for special occasions. Ready in minutes, what’s not to love?!

Made in minutes!

No baking or cooking is required! Pour, stir and snack.

MIX. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.

ENJOY! I double this recipe all the time and it’s the perfect amount for parties.

Recipe Tips

Types of Rice Chex. I used plain Rice Chex Cereal, but you can use any type, or combination: Corn Chex Cereal, Wheat Chex Cereal, Chocolate Chex Cereal, Cinnamon Chex Cereal, or Honey Nut Chex Cereal to name a few.

Gluten-free. Rice Chex Cereal is gluten-free, but the other ingredients used in the recipe are not. To keep the entire cereal mixture gluten-free, replace the pretzels and cheerios with alternative gluten-free snacks.

Alternative ingredients. Customize and add any type of treat to this sweet and salty snack mix. I recommend sticking to less than 8 different ingredients, but you can add as many or as few different types of snacks as you wish.

  • Sweet: Reeses Pieces, Teddy Grahams, Mini Oreos, Nutter Butter Bites, Mini Fudge Stripes, candy corn, candy bar bites, candy-coated pretzels, or Trix Cereal
  • Salty: different flavored Cheez-It Crackers, Goldfish Crackers, mixed nuts (pecans, almonds, walnuts, cashews), squiggle breadsticks, cheese puffs, pretzel fish, mini pretzels, multi-seed crisps, Ritz Bits, or bagel chips

Holidays. Sweet and Salty Chex Mix can easily be adjusted to fit the current holiday. Add in festive holiday candies like candy pumpkin and candy corn for Thanksgiving or Halloween, Mini Cadbury Eggs at Easter, or pink and white M&M’s for Valentine’s. You get the idea.

Storing Info

STORE. This salty Chex Mix recipe should last for at least a couple of weeks when stored in an airtight container.

Whip up a large batch and keep it around for after-school snacks, lunch box treats, or to serve at a party!
