Our flavorful 5-ingredient cabbage stir fry is a one pan vegetarian favorite that’s on the table in under 15 minutes!
Cabbage: Stir-Fry Style
We love a good stir fry at our house. It’s a great way to use up vegetables, and today’s version of cabbage stir fry uses only veggies!
Our family loves Asian recipes and because our kids actually love cabbage, we knew they’d love this stir fry. The best part is this veggie dish is SO simple and takes just a few ingredients.
Soy sauce and Chinese cooking wine added the perfect touch of flavor. It’s also a one-pan dinner that is on the table in about 10 minutes (it doesn’t get much easier than that!) Just add rice for one simple weeknight meal.

Ingredients
PREP TIME: 5 minutes
COOK TIME: 7 minutes
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil – or olive oil or sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced – see How to Mince Garlic. You can also season with ¼ teaspoon ground cloves, red pepper flakes, or ginger.
- 1 pound shredded cabbage – Napa cabbage is a great choice as are Chinese cabbage, green cabbage, or purple cabbage.
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce – regular or low sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Chinese cooking wine, (Shaoxing wine) – or rice vinegar
- optional garnish – green onions and sesame seeds
- optional protein – Mix in ground turkey, chicken, pork, or bacon bits.
How to Make Cabbage Stir Fry
- COOK. In a large cooking pan or wok, over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon oil until hot. Stir in 2 cloves minced garlic and cook until lightly browned and fragrant.
- Add 1 pound of shredded cabbage and stir until coated in oil. Cover and cook for 1 minute.
- SEASON. Add 1 tablespoon soy sauce and cook for another minute or two.
- Increase the heat to high and stir in 1 tablespoon of Chinese cooking wine. Cook and stir cabbage for about 2 minutes, or until tender.
- SERVE. Serve hot with your choice of rice, quinoa, chicken, and more.
