Everyone Loves it!

It may be called a salad, but this Snickers salad is definitely a dessert. It’s similar to our best loved dessert salads – Ambrosia Salad or Pistachio Salad – and has been a family favorite for years (the kids are especially obsessed).

Whether you call it caramel apple salad, apple Snickers salad, candy salad, or Snickers salad – this treat is sure to be loved by all and is the perfect addition to your upcoming BBQ or swim party.

WHY WE LOVE IT:

  • It’s really a dessert. It’s called salad, but it’s truly a dessert and we aren’t complaining.
  • Like a Caramel Apple. If you love those, you’ll love them!
  • Great for outings. Everyone goes nuts for this at potlucks, family get-togethers, BBQs in the summer, or even celebrating caramel apple weather in the fall.
  • Can be made ahead. Make this up to 1 day ahead of time.
Snickers and apples on board for Snicker Salad.

Ingredients

  • 1 (3.4-ounce) box instant pudding – Be sure to buy INSTANT vanilla pudding mix. Also note that when you combine the dry pudding mix with the ½ cup of milk, it will resemble more of a paste texture, rather than a soft pudding mixture.
    • Do NOT use the cook-n-serve pudding, it will not set and it will make the salad more runny.
    • Change the pudding flavor to white chocolate, cheesecake, or butterscotch pudding for different variations.
  • ½ cup milk – We suggest using whole or 2% milk for this recipe.
  • 8 ounces cool whip – We prefer homemade Whipped Cream, but Cool Whip works great and is easy.
  • 4 large Granny Smith apples – see below for other apples to use
  • 4-5 Snickers barsTry changing the candy bar type: Milky Way, Mars Bars, or Twix.
  • caramel sauce – homemade Caramel Sauce or from the bottle. Other optional toppings you can add include a drizzle of Chocolate Syrup, mini chocolate chips, or sprinkle with chopped walnuts or pecans.

Best Apples to Use

It entirely depends on your preference. I like using a more tart apple to balance out the sweetness of the other ingredients but choose an apple that is firm and bruise-free.

  • Sweet. Gala, Golden Delicious, Fuji, Honeycrisp, or Red Delicious apples
  • Tart. Granny Smith, Cortland, Melrose, or Winesap apples
  • Sweet and tart. Jazz, Pink Lady, or Jonagold apples

How to make SnickerS Salad

  1. COMBINE. In a large bowl, whisk the ½ cup milk and the box instant pudding mix, then fold in the 8 ounces of whipped topping.
  2. CUT. Cut up 4 large Granny Smith apples and 4 to 5 Snickers candy bars into bite-size pieces, and mix the chopped apples and candy pieces in.
  3. TOP. Drizzle Caramel Sauce on top. Serve cold or layer, and serve cold.

Notes

Make ahead of time. Make this Snicker salad recipe up to a day in advance. The coating of the Whipped Cream will help keep the apples from browning, but to be extra cautious, pretreat the apples (with previous suggestions), before mixing up the recipe.
STORE. Keep leftover Snicker apple salad covered, in the fridge, for 2-3 days. Over time, the extra moisture from the apples will begin causing the whipped cream to separate. It is still safe to eat. Give it a good stir or add a bit extra whipped cream to help smooth it out.

  5. Sherry says:

How far in advance can this be made or should be made in order to blend flavors?

    1. Lil' Luna says:

I would just make it the morning of, but wait to add more apples and snickers on top, so the apples won’t brown. I haven’t made it sooner. Hope that helps!

  6. Kristin says:

I have this on my schedule to make for a bbq this weekend…any idea how many servings this makes? Trying to see if I’ll need to double the recipe or not!

    1. Lil' Luna says:

It doesn’t make a whole lot, so if you’re going to a BBQ, I would maybe double it. Can’t say exactly how many it feeds, but doubling the recipe would feed more. Have fun!

Does the pudding get mixed in as powder or is it made up as “pudding” first?

    1. Whit says:

It says 1 small box of vanilla pudding then to mix milk and pudding then fold in the whip cream.

  10. Christy says:

How far in advance could you make this? I am wondering if the apples would start to turn brown after a few minutes after being cut up. Looks yummy!!
