While many of our Easter traditions focus on Christ, we LOVE to include a few fun “Easter Bunny” activities and treats like our kids’ favorite bunny bait recipe!

Bunny Bait is the cutest, easiest Easter snack mix, sweet, salty, crunchy, and totally addictive. It is loaded with cereal, pretzels, M&Mโ€™s, and peanuts, then all coated in melty white almond bark for the ultimate grab-and-go treat.

This is one of those recipes that is perfect for parties, class treats, and holiday snack boards because it makes a big batch fast. Plus, it is super customizable! Swap in different candies, add sprinkles, or use your favorite nuts, and it always turns out delicious.

For more perfect munchies, try our Sweet Chex Mix and White Chocolate Popcorn.

Why we think you’ll love it:

  • Sweet and salty. We combined salt, nuts, and cereal with milk chocolate M&Ms and a vanilla candy coating for an addictive combo!
  • So festive. The pastel M&Ms are the perfect Easter touch, making this a favorite treat for the season!
  • Perfect for beginners. This recipe is beyond simple! Melt the candy coating and stir with cereal mixture, then simply spread it out and let it cool!
Bunny bait ingredients set out on a kitchen counter.
  • Rice Chex cereal (2 cups): Adds light, crispy crunch and helps the snack mix stay airy instead of heavy. Corn Chex can also be used.
  • Plain Cheerios (2 cups): Brings a classic toasty flavor and extra crunch that holds up well under the coating. Kix cereal also works.
  • Mini pretzels (2 cups): Adds salty crunch and that perfect sweet and salty balance. We like the bite-size mini pretzels, but pretzel sticks or regular pretzel twists can be used instead.
  • Easter M&Mโ€™s (2 cups): Adds color, chocolatey bites, and makes it feel festive for spring and Easter.
  • Peanuts, salted or unsalted (1-2 cups): Adds protein, crunch, and a nutty flavor, salted peanuts make the sweet coating taste even better. Use almonds or walnuts if you can’t have peanuts.
  • White almond bark (1 (24-ounce) package): Melts smoothly to coat everything, sets up firm, and gives that sweet, creamy finish that holds the mix together. White almond bark is often labeled as vanilla almond bark.
  • optional mix-ins: White or colored mini marshmallows, Easter sprinkles, sweetened coconut flakes

MIX. In a large bowl, combine Chex, Cheerios, pretzels, M&Mโ€™s, and peanuts and mix well.

ALMOND BARK. Break almond bark into pieces and melt in a medium pot over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.

  • Pour melted bark over cereal mixture and mix well.
The cereal mixture spread onto a lined baking sheet to cool.

COOL. Spread out onto wax paper or a parchment paperโ€“lined baking sheet. Let set for 1 hour, then break into pieces to serve.

    • The bigger the mixing bowl, the easier it is to coat everything evenly.
    • To melt the bark in the microwave, chop it into smaller pieces and place it in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second increments, stirring in between, until smooth.
    • We prefer using almond bark, but you can use white chocolate chips. Check out our How to Melt Chocolate post for tips.
    • Should you add other mix-ins, use ones that are similar in size, and be sure the ratio of snack mix to the candy coating is balanced so everything gets coated.
    • We love to double this bunny bait recipe and deliver this easy-to-make treat to neighbors.

    Is this gluten-free?

Chex Mix is already gluten-free, but you’ll need to find gluten-free Cheerios and pretzels to use.

    Can I add extra mix-ins?

Some recipes include plain popcorn, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips or peanut butter chips, flaked coconut, or sprinkles. Just keep the ratio of the snack mix balanced with the amount of candy coating so everything is covered sufficiently.

    Holiday variations?

To switch up the holiday theme, replace the bright pastel color M&Ms with ones that match the holiday and add matching sprinkles, or check out our Halloween Snack Mix recipe or Christmas Chex Mix version.

    How to store?

Store in an airtight container at room temperature. It’s best within 3-4 days but can last for 5-7 days. It can also be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw before serving.
