A delicious and rich cake with a flavorful crust and creamy batter on top that is butter-y and addicting! Neiman Marcus Cake is the perfect dessert for any occasion.
We love easy and delicious cakes like this one! Other favorites include our easy chocolate cake, and white Texas sheet cake.
Why is it called Neiman Marcus Cake?
To be honest, no one really knows why. To some, they are called Texas Gold Bars or even Gooey Butter Cake. We do have gooey butter cake on our site, and although similar, Neiman Marcus cake is different.
Today’s cake has pecans, coconut and a more cake-y/bar bottom layer (hence why it’s also sometimes called “Neiman Marcus Bars). Fortunately, it is DELICIOUS and just as tasty as our gooey butter cake.
If you’re looking to make a rich and decadent dessert that is simple – this is the one to try! But don’t say we didn’t warn you that it’s ADDICTING!
How to Make Neiman Marcus Cake?
This yummy cake is really quite simple!
CRUST. Begin making the crust by mixing the yellow cake mix, softened butter, chopped pecans, coconut and eggs in a large bowl. Pour it into a greased 9×13 pan and spread evenly.
BATTER. Mix the powdered sugar, cream cheese egg and vanilla with a hand mixer. Pour this over the crust.
BAKE. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes (or until the top is a little browned). Let cool completely before serving.
Recipe FAQ
Can I use other flavors of cake mix? This recipe is for the classic Neiman Marcus cake using yellow cake mix. However, you can easily change it up and use any flavor of cake mix. Chocolate cake, red velvet, and carrot cake are all great choices.
How to Store? Because of the cream cheese layer these bars will need to be covered and stored in the fridge. They should last for up to a week.
You can also FREEZE this recipe. Wrap each slice with plastic wrap and store them together in an airtight freezer safe container. Label and freeze for up to 3 months.

Can you make this cake a day ahead of serving it?
Yes you could!
This is NOT the traditional Neiman Marcus Cake. This includes coconut and nuts, neither of which is in the traditional cake sold at Neiman Marcus stores.

The Neiman Marcus cake is way too sweet for our house. I expected more crust and less filling. It was just the opposite.
My husbands ALL time favorite!!
So happy to hear that!!
The worst cake I have ever made! Super sticky around edge, dense and super gooey in the middle, and way too sweet. Disaster trying to cut it up! Threw it in the trash!
