With only 3 ingredients and minutes to prep, this sausage casserole is a savory favorite for feeding a crowd effortlessly!

It’s Even better than you think!
We LOVE breakfast recipes – especially if they are SIMPLE and QUICK. This sausage casserole is one of those!
It’s one of the easiest “casseroles” you’ll ever make, with literally 3 ingredients and preps in minutes. All you have to do is layer and bake!
You can use hot sausage, turkey sausage, maple sausage – practically any sausage you prefer. We use Jimmy Dean Pork Sausage crumbles since we always have them on hand for breakfast dishes (our kids love sausage).
That particular sausage is also already cooked, making the recipe even easier. It’s a breakfast win all around!
WHY WE LOVE IT:

Ingredients
PREP TIME: 5 minutes
COOK TIME: 20 minutes
- 2 (9.6-ounce) packages Jimmy Dean Pork Sausage Crumbles – Or cook 1½ lbs of pork sausage. Heat a large skillet and brown the sausage. Drain excess oil before adding the cream cheese. Use maple syrup breakfast sausage, mild sausage, or hot Italian sausage.
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 2 (8-ounce) packages crescent rolls
- optional variations – bacon bits, scrambled eggs, shredded cheese like Colby jack cheese, cheddar cheese, or pepper jack cheese, or add sauteed veggies like green chilies, onions, bell pepper, spinach, mushrooms, or jalapenos
- optional spices – Sprinkle on salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, or red pepper flakes to taste.

How to Make Sausage Casserole
- PREP. Preheat oven to 375°F.
- SAUSAGE. Place 2 packages of cooked sausage crumbles and add 8 ounces of cream cheese in a medium pot and cook on low heat until combined and warm.
- CRESCENTS. Unroll a package of crescent roll dough onto a greased pan and pinch the seams together.
- LAYER. Pour the sausage and cream cheese mixture over the dough and spread it around. Unroll the second crescent roll dough, pinch the seams together, and place it over the top of the sausage.
- BAKE. Pinch the top layer to the bottom crescent roll dough sealing all around the edges. Bake for 14-16 minutes. Serve warm. ENJOY!
Use a Baking Dish
Follow the same steps but press it in a 9×13 pan. Add about 5 minutes to the bake time or until hot throughout.

Sausage Cream Cheese Casserole Recipe
Video
Ingredients
- 2 (9.6-ounce) packages Jimmy Dean Pork Sausage Crumbles, fully cooked
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 2 (8-ounce) packages crescent rolls
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Place sausage crumbles and cream cheese in a medium pot and cook on low heat until combined and warm.
- Unroll crescent roll dough onto a greased pan and pinch seams together.
- Pour the sausage and cream cheese mixture over the dough and spread it around.
- Unroll the second crescent roll dough and place it over the top of the sausage. Pinch seams together and pinch the two crescent roll doughs all around the edges.
- Bake for 14-16 minutes. Serve warm. ENJOY!
Notes
- To use uncooked sausage, you’ll need about 1½ lbs worth of pork sausage. Heat a large skillet and brown the sausage. Drain excess oil before adding the cream cheese.
- We like to bake the casserole on a tray, but a 9×13 baking dish works too, just add about 5 minutes to the bake time.
- Press the crescent roll seams firmly and seal the edges well to help keep the sausage mixture from leaking out.
- Add up to ½ cup bacon bits, shredded cheese, or sauteed veggies.

Recipe FAQ
Add the cooked sausage to the cream cheese and heat. Once done, allow it to cool before storing it in an airtight container in the fridge. Take the mixture out for about 30 minutes before assembling and baking.
Store leftovers in an airtight container(s) in the refrigerator for 3-4 days, or in the freezer for 2-3 months. Thaw if needed and reheat individual servings in the microwave or larger servings in the oven until warmed.

I love this recipe so much… the savory sweet combination is just perfection!
Right?! Thanks for sharing that!
Question, can you use turkey sausage, instead of pork?
Could you assemble this and freeze prior to cooking? Looking for some freezer meals for post partum!
I typically bake and then will freeze the baked casserole. Then you will thaw, and reheat it in the oven at 350°F. Have a piece of tin foil handy to tent over the dish to keep it from burning while the center warms up. Hope that helps! 🙂
I have made this many times and it is delicious! I add 2 cups of grated cheddar cheese to the top of mix before I put the 2nd can of cresent roll dough on the top. I also put it in a greased 9×13 pan and add a couple of extra minutes until it is brown.
My sister adds a can of chopped green chilies, drained for a little spice.
Could you add scrambled eggs to this?
I suppose you could! We actually have a sausage breakfast casserole with sausage, eggs and crescent roll dough. It’s similar to this and has eggs. Here’s the link if you want to check that out: https://lilluna.com/sausage-breakfast-casserole/
Made this in high school and I loved it so I wanted to make it again and found this recipe! It came out great and delicious. 10/10 ❤️
Double batch only gave me one pan. Son loves it. Hubby hasn’t eaten it yet. Easy to make other than frying up sausage, drain and add cream cheese. Just have to cook it in a good non stick pan on low. Took a while for that. Dough was hard to pinch but make sure you spray your baking pan before stretching dough.
I used brown sugar and cinnamon cream cheese spread and added a quarter cup of brown sugar to the sausage as it was finishing browning. I love sweets
Why would you not list any ingredients with an asterisk or something that is already cooked sausage, I don’t usually read the little story that goes along with the recipe and that’s the only place you put it that it was already cooked, I almost ate a lot of undercooked pork because of you
The ingredient list calls for Jimmy Dean sausage crumbles, which says on the package as “fully cooked”. But if someone can’t find that ingredient or would prefer to another uncooked pork, we included the “tip” to cook it in the post. We didn’t include an asterisk with information in the recipe card because the actual ingredient called for is fully cooked. 🙂
How negative. Blaming others for your ignorance and not paying attention. People never cease to amaze!
What size pan?
I typically use a baking sheet… whatever size you have!
We like things spicy around here to we used a hotter pork sausage to cook up and crumble. The spicy sausage paired with cream cheese was a hit
I absolutely love this!! I love sausage, more than bacon & this is hearty, can feed a crowd, & is so yummy!!
Thanks fir sharing ideas and yummy treats.
You’re welcome!
It was really easy and really yummy. Kid approved also!
Omg.. the easiest & best tasting breakfast ever!!!
Could you add scramble egg to the mixture? This looks so yummy!
We love this recipe! I do add a large onion and half of an orange bell pepper cooked and added to the sausage and cream cheese mixture.. Next level flavor. Thank you for the recipe!
You’re welcome! Those additions sound delicious for flavor. Thanks for sharing.
This is a family fav! I am making this for a vacation and want to freeze ahead of time? Advice on best way to freeze?
I’m so glad your family enjoys the recipe. You know, I haven’t frozen this one before and I’m not sure how the texture would be affected by freezing?? I would probably assemble everything and then wrap tightly and freeze. When you are ready to eat, I’d also probably thaw the casserole in the fridge overnight before baking. Then just bake as directed. You’ll have to let us know how it turns out if you do freeze it! Another option is to have all the ingredients ready to go (sausage cooked, etc.) and then do a quick assembly the morning of.
I scrambled up some eggs and mixed in with my sausage and cream cheese. We love it!
Sounds tasty! Thanks for sharing what you did!
Excellent recipe that yields ample portions for everyone. I had to give the recipe to many others who were there on Christmas Morning.
I love this recipe. I’ve made it twice. Super easy, quick and TASTY. I half the recipe as were only 3 here but it’s a winner! I do sauté onions and garlic, I add the sausage meat with Italian seasoning and some salt. Cook. When close to done I add diced mushrooms, diced tomatoes & half a package of cream cheese.
And bake as instructed. I’m so thankful for this recipe and love how versatile it is 🙂
Thanks for sharing what you do. So so glad you enjoy it and yes, it definitely is one that can be customized a bit!
This is my go to for pot-luck breakfast.
The best!!!
Husband loved this!!
Husband loved this!!
I made this, for Saturday morning breakfast with our Mom today! HUGE HIT! SO GOOD!
Perfect for Christmas morning!
Love how easy this was to make!!
Wondering if this recipe can be made in advance, reheated the next morning.
I didn’t have my hopes too high the first time I made this. It just sounded like it would be blah and we would feel it’s missing something, but I had everything on hand so I made a batch. We ate the whole thing!! We all kept going back for more. It’s addictive!! My husband loves everything I cook, but this is the only thing he requests by name over and over. We’ve also found it reheats well the next day on the rare occasion there’s any left! Using crescent sheets makes it even easier. Thanks for sharing this one!!!!
I love to hear that!! Thank you so much for giving it a try!
I have been making this recipe for 45 + years. One of our family favorites. Yes it does reheat well the next day. I have also frozen the mixture, prior to putting in into the crescent rolls, then when needed, just thaw, assemble and bake. Occasionally I have varied the mixture by adding chopped onion, jalapenos, olives, mushrooms etc. Always use the hot sausage. Otherwise , it can be kind of bland. However you cook it, enjoy!
Couldn’t get easier! My husband likes spicier food so half spicy sausage and half mild makes a favorite the whole family.
Oh my goodness, I love biscuits and gravy, so I know I’m going to love this! Adding it to my must make a list!
My family loves this for breakfast and I love how easy it is!
Ummm… this is now a family favorite!! Especially my favorite because it was so easy and my picky kids raved about it!! Woo hoo! Thank you!
Yay!! That’s the greatest when you find a recipe that the kids enjoy too. So glad it’s a hit with your family now. 🙂
A very easy breakfast casserole that will feed plenty.
My kind of breakfast!! I love sausage! It reminds me of a biscuits & gravy, without the gravy, but just as yummy!
I am going to make this tonight for my super picky kids. They love cressant rolls and sausage, so this should be a huge hit! I make a variation of this usually with ground beef, taco seasoning and mexican shredded cheese. Thanks for this easy recipe idea! Sorry for the All caps.
I sure hope they like it! Some of mine are picky, but they love this! Thanks so much!
Very delicious and extreme easy to make. I made it with 1 sausage roll since I didn’t have the crumbles on hand. I looked it up and a bag is 10 oz. but feel the 16 oz. was sufficient in the roll.
Perfect!! I am happy you tried it! Thank you!
I had every ingredient needed and whipped it up quickly. Needless to say iy was a hit and very taStey.
Yay!! Love when that happens! Thank you for letting me know!
How much sausage would I need to cook if I do no have the sausage crumbles? 1lb ? 2lb?
Really, it is up to you. You can’t go wrong. If you like sausage, then I would add 2lbs, but if you want less, then, just do 1lb.
Just made these for a get together…yummy and a hit❣️
Woohoo!! That is what I love to hear! Thank you so much!
can i make it day bef
I am sure it would be ok. I have not personally done so, but it should be good.
Can you make a day ahead and bake it the next day?
I haven’t tried, but I don’t see why not 🙂
It was the best food in the world!!!
Wow, thank you so much for saying that!!
This is a great recipe for Teacher Appreciation Day!
It would be great! We love this recipe!
Okay, my boyfriend and I made this and it was AMAZING!!!! We couldn’t stop eating it lol but the bottom was kind of gooey last time, like it wasn’t cooked all the way while the top was perfectly golden brown.
I’m making it again, any advice on how to cook the bottom more?
LOL! Glad you both liked it! I don’t..I just cook a little longer. Enjoy!!
I wonder if you bake the bottom layer for a few minutes before putting the mixture and top layer on? I might try that. Can’t wait to try this recipe for our friends on vacation!
Just got dish out of oven-looks great-
Thanks so much for giving this recipe a try!! Hope you like it!!
next time I would season the sasuage more-I used 1/4 apple sasuage-1/4 Ital-1/2 breakfast-this recipe is really really good and EASY!
Thank you for sharing and giving this a try! Glad you liked it 🙂
I hope it is ok that I put this in a 9X13 baking dish-please say yes-it’s baking now
Nice recipes. Thank you and have a great weekend!
Thank you Liz! Hope your weekend was nice, too!!:)
How many servings does this recipe make? It’s my turn to make breakfast at work this Friday, and I’ll have to feed 10 people. Should I double it?
That should feed 10, unless you have some super hungry co-workers:) If you made two, you could put any extra in the fridge and eat later! Enjoy!! Hope they like it…we do!
Thanks! Everyone loved it. I ended up making 2 and both of them were devoured!
Haha…yes, they are that good!! I’m so glad everyone loved it!! Thanks for letting me know:)
Can U add a 2nd roll of crescent rolls to top?
I haven’t tried, but I’m sure you could! You’ll just want to make sure it’s baked through. You’ll have to let us know how it turns out if you do. 🙂
This was really really….really good! I ate almost the entire thing on my own. I can not wait for you to make it again 😀
Haha – is this your first comment EVER?! Love you!
