Quick and Easy Dinner
I’m obsessed with EASY dinner ideas! Since it’s something that needs to be made every day we are always looking for quick and simple recipes.
The Mexican recipe I’m sharing today happens to be another one of those. It’s for a taco pie that is made in under an hour. It has all the delicious flavors of Taco Salad in pie form and it’s a hit with the family.
With hamburger, green chiles, Bisquick, cheese, and toppings it’s so flavorful! It includes all things taco, which means even picky kids like it!
Top with Your Favorites!
This taco pie recipe is very similar to a quiche. It can also be modified to include any ingredients you love or remove ones you don’t care for (try shredded chicken – it’s delish).
PREP. Preheat oven to 400ยฐF.
BEEF. Cook ground beef in a skillet until brown and no longer pink.
Stir in taco seasoning and spoon into a greased pie plate. Spoon on green chiles.
BISQUICK. Mix milk, eggs, and Bisquick in a medium bowl until blended, and pour over the meat mixture.
BAKE. Bake for 30 minutes.
Sprinkle on cheese and bake for an additional 10 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Top with salsa, sour cream, lettuce, and/or tomatoes.
TOPPINGS. Top with cheese and bake an additional 10 minutes, before letting it set and adding toppings.
Some of our favorite things to add on top include:
- salsa, sour cream, and more cheese
- tomatoes, shredded lettuce, chopped cilantro, olives, and green onion
Recipe Tips
Bisquick taco pie is quick, easy, and a tasty twist on a taco!
Meat. Lean ground beef doesn’t produce as much excess oil as a fattier mix. If you use 80/20 or 70/30 be sure to drain the oil otherwise you will end up with an oily taco soup.
You can use ground chicken or ground turkey in place of the ground beef.
Taco seasoning. Whip up your own Taco Seasoning Mix using ingredients you probably already have in your pantry like chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, oregano paprika, ground cumin, black pepper, and salt.
Serving suggestions. A slice of taco pie casserole can be eaten alone or with some other delicious Mexican sides such as Refried Beans, Tortilla Chips and Salsa, Spanish Rice, and Mexican Street Corn.
Gluten-free. There is a gluten-free Bisquick mix that you can use for the biscuit layer.
Storing Tips
STORE. Keep easy taco pie recipe in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 4-5 days. Larger portions can be reheated in the oven and smaller portions in the microwave.
FREEZE. Store leftovers for later. Cover tightly and freeze for up to 3 months.
Recipe FAQ
Go ahead and double the recipe so you can freeze one for later. Once the baked pie has cooled off, cover it tightly with plastic and again with aluminum foil. It can stay in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating in the oven; 300ยฐF for about 15 minutes or until warm throughout.
Absolutely! You can line a pie plate with Pie Crust, poke holes all over and bake at 350ยฐF for 13-15 minutes. Add the meat mixture and chiles, sprinkle on cheese, and bake for another 10 minutes.
We like to switch up which cheese we use with recipes. If Mexican blend is not your favorite you can use cheddar cheese, Colby Jack cheese, or mozzarella cheese.
