kid-approved dinner!

Homemade pigs in a blanket are the EASIEST dinner you’ll ever make!

The crescent dough makes these quick to put together! Simple ingredients and steps make this a great last-minute idea for a meal with friends and family. It’s on the table, ready to be devoured, in only 20 minutes!

Our kids LOVE them and we know yours will too! Serve them up with our Homemade French Fries, Mac and Cheese or Pasta Salad for an easy dinner idea.

WHY WE LOVE IT:

  • Great anytime! Not only are they great for dinner, but they also make a tasty after-school snack for kids to grab and eat when they run through the door (just like our Corn Dog Muffins).
  • Beyond simple. The easy pigs in a blanket recipe takes minutes to put together and is so simple that even the kids can make them.
  • For the masses. We love to make these for parties, BBQs, and even in addition to chili cook-offs – they’re perfect for a crowd!
Two large packages of hot dogs.

Ingredients

  • 1 (8-ounce) can refrigerated crescent rolls – We like the flakiness of crescent dough, but you can use any type of biscuit dough.
  • 8 hot dogs – Use beef, turkey, or pork hot dogs, or try cheese-stuffed hot dogs, or more savory brats such as Johnsonville Jalapeno Cheddar Brats, Better Cheddar, or Smoked Brats.
  • 1 egg An egg wash helps seal the edges and provides a crispier golden brown finish. It also helps the sesame seeds adhere to the top of the dough.
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • sesame seeds or use garlic butter, or bagel seasoning
  • optional- Place the cooked bacon strip on top of the hot dog. Then roll up the crescent dough and bake as directed.

How Many to MAke?

Plan for about 1-2 per person. If making mini pigs in a blanket, plan for about 4-6 per person.

How to Make Pigs in a Blanket

  1. PREP. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a cookie sheet and set aside.
  2. ASSEMBLE. Separate 1 (8-ounce) can crescent dough into triangles.
    • Place one of the 8 hot dogs (patted dry) at the wide end of each triangle and roll up. Place on a prepared baking sheet.
  3. EGG WASH. In a small bowl, combine 1 egg and 1 tablespoon water. Brush egg wash over the tops of the rolls. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and press gently into rolls.
  4. BAKE. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Serve mini pigs in a blanket as appetizers or sides.

  • Cut crescent roll dough into 1½-inch squares.
