Ingredients
PREP TIME: 10 minutes
COOK TIME: 15 minutes
- 6 thick slices bread – choose sturdy stale bread, such as Brioche, Sourdough, Challah, or Texas Toast.
- 3 whole eggs – the main binding agent in the custard. Room-temperature eggs will combine better with the other ingredients.
- 3 cups milk – adds moisture and richness to the custard, softens the bread, and creates a creamy base for the eggs.
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – adds a warm sweet flavor to the egg custard.
- ยผ cup sugar – adds sweetness to the custard and can help caramelize the outside of the French toast
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon – or add nutmeg or even a pinch of ground ginger to help add extra layers of complimentary flavor

- Optional toppings – served with syrup like Cinnamon Buttermilk Syrup, Buttermilk Syrup, or maple syrup. They can be dipped in Strawberry Sauce, Pumpkin Dip, Nutella Dip, Apple Brickle Dip Recipe, or Yogurt Fruit Dip

Recipe FAQ
Why are there white streaks on my French toast?
- If the whole egg is not thoroughly whisked into the milk the strands of egg white will cook on the outside of the toast.
Why is my French toast soggy?
- Soggy toast may occur if using thin moist bread, too much milk, skim milk, soaking the breadsticks for too long, or cooking at a high heat causing the outside to cook leaving the center still soggy.
How to store French toast Sticks?
- Store the leftover French toast stick recipe in an airtight container and refrigerate for 3-4 days or store in the freezer for 1-2 months.
- To reheat. Reheat single servings in the microwave or toaster oven, or several on a baking sheet in the oven at 375ยฐF until hot.
3 cups of milk is definitely more than you need if you were only making six slices of breadโs worth. I did a whole loaf of brioche and only used 2 cups of milk (and two eggs). Otherwise great recipe, everybody loved it ๐
Mobile site is hard to use too many ads
I’m so sorry it was hard to navigate the site on your mobile device. I’ll see what I can do for ad placement. Thanks for letting me know!
Iโm wondering if there is a typo with this recipe. I made it and it was extremely soggy. My bread was quite stale and I barely dipped it in the batter. After looking at other recipes, the ratio is usually 3 eggs and 1/3 cup of milk. This recipe calls for 3 cups of milk. I only ended up using a tiny bit of the liquid. It still tasted good, but was just kind of wet. Might just be a matter of preference?
I’ll definitely look into the measurements and check to make sure it’s listed here in the card correctly. Thanks for the feedback!
