kid-approved dinner!

Homemade pigs in a blanket are the easiest appetizer/lunch/dinner idea you’ll ever make! The crescent dough makes these quick to put together for a meal with friends and family.

Best of all? They’re a hit with the entire fam making them a classic family dinner idea. I know my kids love them and I think yours will too!

Why you’ll love Pigs in a Blanket too

  • GREAT ANYTIME! Not only are they great for dinner, but they also make a great after-school snack for kids to grab and eat when they run through the door (just like our Corn Dog Muffins).

Recipe FAQ

  • Cheese. Make a slit in the hot dog and add a strip of cheese to each hot dog, or wrap slices of cheese around the dog before wrapping it in the dough. Use American cheese, cheddar cheese, provolone, pepper jack, or mozzarella.
  • Bacon. Add crispy Bacon in the Oven! Place the cooked bacon strip on top of the hot dog. Then roll up the crescent dough and bake as directed.
  • Dough. I like the flakiness of crescent dough, but you can use any type of biscuit dough.
  • Topping. Aside from sesame seeds, add garlic butter, or bagel seasoning if desired.
  • Plan for about 1-2 per person. If making mini pigs in a blanket, plan for about 4-6 per person.
  • Place leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
    • To reheat. Bake at 350ยฐF for 4-5 minutes or until heated through!

I was looking for a quick and easy recipe for using hot dogs and I stumbled across this recipe which looked pretty good for a change. I had not had pig’s in a blanket since I was a child and I thought I would try it, I am so glad I did! It was so easy to make and they tasted delicious, my husband loved them and so did my grand kids, the sesame seeds were a great addition. I always use all beef hot dogs and I did add a little garlic and onion powder with the egg wash (Garlic is pretty much a staple in our house) this is a great recipe and a really quick meal when you are in a hurry. P.S. I have used several of Lil Luna’s recipes before and they have all been a hit. So, I thank you Lil Luna for all your great recipes that you share!
