Sweet and salty Halloween snack mix is festive and fun for a delicious fall treat that’s perfect for sharing!
perfect Holiday snacking
Every Friday we have movie night and we are always looking for snacks and desserts to make for the night. We often have popcorn, but love to jazz it up a bit with candy or chocolate (like White Chocolate M&M Popcorn or Caramel Marshmallow Popcorn).
Around Halloween, when fall candies are in abundance, we decided to try a Halloween snack mix with popcorn, cereal, nuts, and candy! It’s a modification of our White Trash recipe and the kids went nuts (pun intended 😉 ) for it!
It comes together quickly and then just needs time to set, so plan ahead, or start the movie while you wait. 😉 Add it to a Halloween Charcuterie Board or Halloween Candy Charcuterie Board for an even bigger spread, and enjoy!
WHY WE LOVE IT:
- Festive and fun. The colors and shapes of Halloween candies transform this mix into a festive Halloween snack mix recipe!
- Easy and quick. This recipe has minimal ingredients and just a few simple steps.
- Giftable. This mix is great for storing, so make a big batch and share it with neighbors and friends – both kids and adults will love it!
Ingredients
PREP TIME: 5 minutes
COOK TIME: 8 minutes
REST TIME: 1 hour
- 1½ cups Rice Chex cereal – General Mills or a generic brand can be used
- 1½ cups Corn Chex – This portion of the Check Mix can be replaced with another type of mini cracker or cookie such as mini Oreos, Teddy Grahams, Chip Ahoy, Nilla Wafers, Ritz Peanut butter and more.
- 2 cups mini pretzels – if you can’t find mini pretzels, use regular ones and break them into chunks.
- 2 cups Halloween M&M’s – or Reese’s Pieces for an autumn colored snack mix
- 1-2 cups peanuts salted or unsalted – or salted almonds or cashews
- 1 cup candy corn or Halloween Mallow mix
- 1 (24-ounce) package white almond bark – or white chocolate candy wafers
How to Make Halloween Snack Mix

Notes
- The double boiler method is the best. Fill the bottom of a small saucepan with about 2 inches of water bring to a boil and then turn to low heat. Remove the lid and place a heat-safe glass or metal bowl on top (making sure the bottom doesn’t touch the water). Add chopped bark to the bowl, and stir while the chocolate melts.
- Microwave is the fastest, but take caution that it doesn’t overheat. Heat in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly between each interval.

Recipe FAQ
Cereal. General Mills Rice and Corn Chex are gluten-free.
Pretzels are not usually gluten-free so look for a gluten-free alternative.
Peanuts are gluten free but double check label.
Candy. Plain M&Ms, classic Candy Corn, and Almond Bark are generally made with gluten-free ingredients, but always check the package labels for hidden gluten or if made in facilities where cross-contamination may occur.
A single batch makes about 10 cups of mix. I would plan for each person to have at least 1 cup of this treat if it’s the only one served. However, if you’re offering other treats, you can reduce the serving size to ½ cup per person.
Overheating. If the almond bark is overheated, either on the stovetop or in the microwave, it can seize up and become grainy.
Water contamination. Even a small amount of water can cause the almond bark to seize.
The double boiler method is the best.
Microwave is the fastest, but take caution that it doesn’t overheat. Heat in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly between each interval.
Once cool and set, the mix can be placed in an airtight container or Ziploc. Store at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, in the fridge for 3 weeks (may become soft), or in the freezer for 2-3 months.

These crunchy treats are so perfect for movie night. A combination of sweet and salty to satisfy everyone.
Looks great! Love the variety of how many different treats are in it!
This looks great! I will be fixing this for my daughter’s softball tournament this weekend. How long will it keep? Can I make on Friday night to have for Saturday night?
About how much does this recipe make? Cups or guesstimate to give an idea on whether I need to double this recipe.
Hmmm… wish I would have measured. I’d say it made about 5 cups. 🙂
Looks so festive and tasty!Pinned!
THANK YOU!!!
Yum! This look amazing!
Lorin ate the whole thing – he said it was addicting! LOL!!
You’re right- this would be PERFECT for a Friday movie night! Pinned!
Kristyn – I love this and will be making it this weekend. I have a question for you on some advice — you know that I love to make all your treats for our missionaries, and they love everything I make. If I make this, how do you think I should wrap it for them?? Big baggies?? I’m just not sure but I want to give it to them! Any ideas?? I usually buy cheap dishes at Target for cookies and such, but always lost on snack mixes. Thanks for all you do to help me keep a generous heart and pass things on!!
donna
got some nice jars at Target – I didn’t want to use Mason jars but found some other ones. Worked great. Thanks!
Are they the ones from the Dollar Spot? If so, I bought the same ones!! 😉
Yes! And they really looked good. I filled them with the snack mix, and then put a couple of Halloween Oreo cookies on the top. They were very well received. I told them they could munch on them whenever they want of course, but this weekend would be a good one while they watch Conference!! They were so thrilled. Thank you for all your good treats – and your regular ‘mom’ chocolate chip cookies are still the best!! I made them with Halloween chocolate chips (Target too!)
