What’s better than sautéed or Roasted Green Beans? Fried green beans, of course!

We can’t get enough of these “Green Bean Fries”. We first tried them at a restaurant years ago, and now we make them at home! They are especially perfect for game day appetizers or dinner parties with friends and family!

These are great on their own, but we love dipping ours in cold homemade Ranch Dressing. If you’re a fan of delicious fried appetizers, you’ll also love Fried Zucchini, Jalapeño Poppers, and Fried Mac and Cheese!

Why we think you’ll love it:

  • Only 5 ingredients. It doesn’t take much to make this favorite finger food appetizer!
  • Crispy. The panko breading is crispy perfection, and that is what makes this side dish so addictive.
  • Ready in no time. From start to finish, this easy appetizer is on the table in under 30 minutes!

Fried Green Beans Ingredients and Substitutions

  • 1 pound fresh green beans If needed, trim the ends.
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup seasoned bread crumbs – We use Italian-style crumbs. Other flavor options include adding grated parmesan cheese, black pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic salt, and paprika.
  • 2 cups vegetable oil – Use a cooking oil with a high smoking point. Vegetable oil, canola oil, and peanut oil are all good choices. Be sure the oil reaches about 375°F.
  • optional dipping sauce.  Ranch dressingHomemade HummusAvocado Lime Ranch DipChipotle Ranch, or Dill Vegetable Dip

How to Make Fried Green Beans

  1. PREP. Blanch 1 pound of fresh green beans by bringing a pot of water to a boil and cooking beans for about 2 minutes (or until bright green). Immediately add beans to an ice bath (bowl of ice water). Drain beans and pat dry with paper towels.
    • Heat 2 cups of oil on medium-high heat in a large saucepan or deep fryer.
  2. COAT. While oil is heating, add flour to one bowl, a separated beaten egg to a separate bowl, and a cup of bread crumbs to another bowl.
    • Dredge green beans in flour, transfer to egg mixture, and coat. Add to bread crumbs and make sure the entire bean is coated.
  3. FRY. Working in batches, fry green beans in oil until golden brown (about 4 minutes). Once fried, add to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite dip.
  • Be sure to coat the green beans evenly in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs. Also, maintain a consistent oil temperature. If it’s too low, the breading can fall off.
  • Feel free to add extra seasoning. To make spicy fried green beans, add black pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic salt, and paprika.
  • We love to dip fried green beans in Ranch dressing, but Fry SauceAvocado Lime Ranch DipChipotle Ranch, or Dill Vegetable Dip are good too.
  • Instead of oil frying in a large skillet, you can use an air fryer (390°F for 5-6 minutes) or bake them in the oven (425°F for 12-15 minutes).

These were sooo tasty, I put salt and pepper in the flour and used garlic herb breadcrumbs, I followed the recipe exactly and they turned out great!! Will be making them again soon. Thank you for the great recipe!!

  3. DL says:

Shame there is absolutely no seasoning! 😲

  4. Maria says:

Method is sound, but this needs WAY more seasoning. I’d use two eggs, and add a full tsp. Salt, pepper, some cayenne, paprika.

  5. Stacy Santos says:

So I’m about to give the recipe a try. I’ll let you know how it turns out..

Neither the flour nor the breadcrumbs stuck to the green beans. Your pictures look like you used a wet batter, because dipping the beans in the flour, egg, and crumbs separately didn’t do the trick at all. So sad this was such a flop. 🙁

    1. Lil'Luna Team says:

So sorry to hear the recipe didn’t turn out. Thanks for the feedback and for giving the recipe a try!

    2. Curtis Sears says:

      Try egg flour egg crumbs

I’ve first had fried green beans just a few weeks ago. They were so good, I wanted to try making them myself. I gave them a five star rating because my disappointment in them was of my own design. I failed to add enough seasoning because I was afraid of adding too much. The next time I make them, I will adjust the seasonings.

    1. Lil'Luna Team says:

Thanks for giving the recipe a try! I’m glad you enjoyed the beans… and will even more with more seasoning. 😉

  9. Kandice says:

Can the finished product be frozen and reheated

  10. Kv says:

Ice should be an ingredient in this recipe……

Made these last night and they were so yummy!! It was a great way to use all the fresh green beans from our garden. We added a little grated parmesan to the breadcrumbs and sprinkled with salt right after they came out of the oil. My boyfriend and I had no problem finishing the whole plate by ourselves. Will definitely be making these again soon!

    1. Lil'Luna Team says:

Ooh adding the parmesan sounds delicious! I’m so glad you both enjoyed the recipe. Thanks for the review!

These are so good! I always ordered them at PF Chang’s and now can make at home. You can also sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if you don’t want to dip.

True! They are just as good at home 🙂 Thank you!

  15. Kathy Boedeker says:

YUMMY!! I do want to know if you buy the already seasoned bread crumbs or if you season them yourself? Italian seasoned bread crumbs doesn’t sound like it would go together.

    Thanks for the additional info.

    1. Kristyn Merkley says:

I do buy the seasoned breadcrumbs 🙂

Thank you! Best way to eat them!

    2. Shelby says:

These look delicious!!! Have you tried this recipe with frozen green beans? Are frozen green beans blanched before freezing? I realize they would need to be thawed first. I’m not seeing fresh organic green beans in the store right now. Thank you!

      1. Kandice says:

Most frozen veggies are blanched which is why they are faster to cook. You can buy three lbs of organic frozen green beans at Costco for around 10$. If you don’t have a membership just have someone that does buy you a cash card (gift card) you can purchase over the amount of the card but you can’t buy alcohol on it
