AKA – Green Bean Fries!

What’s better than sauteed or roasted green beans? Fried green beans of course! We can’t get enough of these “Green Bean Fries” that we first tried at a restaurant years ago. Now we make them at home and especially love them for game day appetizers or dinner parties with friends and family!

These are great on their own, but we love dipping ours in cold Ranch Dressing. If you’re a fan of delicious fried appetizers, you’ll also love Fried Zucchini, Jalapeรฑo Poppers, and Fried Mac and Cheese!

WHY WE LOVE IT:

  • Only 5 ingredients. It doesn’t take much to make this favorite finger food appetizer!
  • Crispy. The panko breading is crispy perfection, and that is what makes these so addictive.
  • Ready in no time. From start to finish these are on the table in under 30 minutes!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans If needed, trim the ends.
  • ยฝ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup seasoned bread crumbs – We use Italian style. Add extra spice using black pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic salt, and paprika.
  • 2 cups vegetable oil – Use a cooking oil with a high smoking point. Vegetable oil, canola oil, and peanut oil are all good choices. Be sure the oil reaches about 375ยฐF.

How to make fried Green Beans

  1. PREP. Blanch 1 pound of fresh green beans by bringing a pot of water to a boil and cooking beans for about 2 minutes (or bright green). Immediately add beans to an ice bath (bowl of ice water). Drain beans and pat dry with paper towels.
    • Heat 2 cups oil on medium-high heat in a large saucepan or deep fryer.
  2. COAT. While oil is heating, add ยฝ cup flour to a bowl, 1 egg to a separate bowl (beaten), and 1 cup bread crumbs to another bowl.
    • Dredge green beans in flour, transfer to egg mixture, and coat. Add to bread crumbs and make sure the entire bean is coated.
  3. FRY. Fry green beans in oil until golden brown (about 4 minutes). Once fried, add to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm with dip.

Alternative Cooking Methods

BAKE. Lay the coated green beans on a greased baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for 12-15 minutes at 425ยฐF or until golden brown.

AIR FRY. Place breaded green beans in the air fryer at 390ยฐF, spray them with olive oil, and cook for about 5 minutes or until golden brown.

Iโ€™ve first had fried green beans just a few weeks ago. They were so good, I wanted to try making them myself. I gave them a five star rating because my disappointment in them was of my own design. I failed to add enough seasoning because I was afraid of adding too much. The next time I make them, I will adjust the seasonings.

Made these last night and they were so yummy!! It was a great way to use all the fresh green beans from our garden. We added a little grated parmesan to the breadcrumbs and sprinkled with salt right after they came out of the oil. My boyfriend and I had no problem finishing the whole plate by ourselves. Will definitely be making these again soon!

These are so good! I always ordered them at PF Chang’s and now can make at home. You can also sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if you don’t want to dip.

YUMMY!! I do want to know if you buy the already seasoned bread crumbs or if you season them yourself? Italian seasoned bread crumbs doesn’t sound like it would go together.

    Thanks for the additional info.

    1. Kristyn Merkley says:

I do buy the seasoned breadcrumbs ๐Ÿ™‚
