Creamy with a kick

Taco Salad is such a fun family staple. You can basically round up whatever ingredients you have on hand and make something delicious!

I’ve made vegetarian versions with black beans, or used ground turkey for the taco meat. It’s really so versatile, and as long as you have a good dressing, it’s delicious!!!

Our go-to dressing for taco salad is creamy and has some spice. This Taco Salad Dressing uses cream cheese for a smooth texture, as well as salsa. You could change it up and use a tomatillo salsa or salsa verde if that’s your flavor! Either way, it’s tasty!

How to assemble a Taco Salad

We have a go-to recipe for Taco Salad. However, you can use the following information to create the best taco salad recipe unique to you and your favorite ingredients:

Meat base: This can be ground beef, ground turkey or ground chicken, brown it in a large skillet and add flavor with Homemade Taco Seasoning. Be sure that you drain extra grease before adding any seasoning.

Shredded Meats: If you would rather use shredded meat we have got you covered.  Try

Toppings: Serve the taco salad in one large bowl, or in individual bowls. When I have a large gathering I like to have a taco bar and set out all the different toppings for people to make their own perfect salads. Some of the toppings I often use include:

  • Veggies: Iceberg lettuce or romaine lettuce, Red onion or green onion, Cilantro, Diced bell peppers
  • Fruit: Diced Avocado, Diced tomato, Black olives
  • Cheese/Dairy: Shredded cheddar cheese, Greek yogurt or sour cream
  • More Toppings: Guacamole, Pico de Gallo
  • Other: Black Beans

Serve with tortilla chips, Fritos, Doritos, tortilla strips.

More than Just Tacos

This taco salad dressing can also be used on more dishes than just tacos. It tastes great with any most any Mexican dish such as:

Storing Info

Make the Dressing ahead of time: I like to make my dressings a day or two ahead of when I want to use it, because then it has time to sit in the fridge and let the flavors all combine. Give it good sake before pouring.

To STORE: I typically use a glass jar, but any airtight container will do. If stored properly, it should last for 1-2 weeks in the fridge.

To FREEZE: Just keep in mind that due to the dairy in the ingredients it just may not be quite the same texture. Should you wish to freeze it, simply pour it in a freezer safe container and keep it in the fridge for 6-8 weeks.

This was delicious! I used my favorite black bean & corn salsa and left out the chili powder and it was *chef’s kiss*. We drizzled it on our tacos and it was perfection!
