Crescent Roll Chicken Bundles

Shredded chicken mixed with cream cheese, Italian dressing mix, and cream of chicken rolled into buttery crescent dough! These flavorful Chicken Crescent Roll Bundles have become a family fave.

This is one of the BEST and easiest dinner recipes using Pillsbury crescent rolls. The canned dough comes in handy when I’m in a pinch, and I can make easy meals like this one, pigs in a blanket, or spinach roll ups!

STUFFED CRESCENT ROLLS

I first had these bundles of deliciousness several years back when my assistant, Jezzy, brought them over. Her family had made them for us, and I couldn’t believe how flavorful and delicious they were. She said they were a family favorite and that they had been making them for years.

Her family calls them chicken pockets, but I’ve seen similar recipes called various things—chicken bundles, chicken stuffed crescent rolls, chicken crescent roll ups… Whatever you decide to call them, they’re going to blow your mind!

You can imagine that crescent rolls stuffed with shredded chicken, cream cheese, cream of chicken, and Italian dressing mix would be pretty awesome – and they are!!

a 30 minute meal!

This recipe only takes like 30-35 minutes from start to finish, which is perfect for our crazy busy family! That’s probably why we eat these so often – they taste like a 60 minute meal, but only take 30. 😉

GRAVY. Start by making the gravy mixture. Add cream cheese and both cans of soup to a medium pot and turn to medium heat. Add dressing mix and stir until well combined. Turn down to low heat.

FILLING. Pour most of the mixture into a large bowl, leaving enough in the pan to use as a gravy to put on the chicken bundles. Add the shredded chicken and the green onions to the large bowl and mix together. Set aside.

STUFF. Separate the crescent roll dough and place on a cookie sheet. Scoop a spoonful of chicken mix onto the crescent roll dough and roll (we fold the left side in, right side in, and then roll towards the long point).

BAKE & SERVE. Bake in the oven for 9-12 minutes. Pour remaining sauce/gravy mixture on top and serve warm.

Tips, substitutes and add-ins

Substitutes. Cream of mushroom soup or cream of celery soup can be used as an alternative for the cream of chicken soup, it is up to you and your preference.

If you would like to substitute the cream cheese you can use plain Greek yogurt though it may alter the taste and texture.

Optional add-ins. Mix any of the following in with the chicken and green onions (up to 1 cup total of extra mix-ins).

  • Chopped spinach
  • Chopped broccoli
  • Celery
  • Green chilis
  • Diced Jalapeños

To make things even easier you can use the canned chicken, but I prefer to use chicken that was cooked in the crock pot and then shredded or even a rotisserie chicken. 😉

  1. I am in love! I have seen versions of these before but this recipe looks the best! Thanks for sharing.

  2. This is total comfort food and I know my kids would devour it! Crescent rolls just make me so happy. 🙂

  3. 5 stars
My family really enjoyed these! I used homemade crescent rolls and three cups of chicken. The recipe makes a lot of sauce, so next time I may just make a half batch of the chicken broth/cream cheese mixture and use two cups of chicken instead of three.

Thank you very much for sharing this delicious meal!

    1. I can’t seem to remember how many triangles are in one can, but you could just half the recipe, using only one can. Hope you like them 🙂

      1. There’s 8 triangles in a can, and my husband loved them! We just had a little leftover filling. Thanks!

          1. Made this tonight! It’s a keeper. My husband and I had enough left over for another meal. We’re going to try the filling in a wrap. Delicious!!!

          2. Oh I’m so happy to hear that!! That sounds like a yummy way to enjoy the filling too. Thanks for sharing!

    1. No such thing as a stupid question 😉 No, you just follow the instructions exactly and add it with the cream cheese. It almost makes like a gravy consistency. It’s yum! Hope that helps and hope you like it!

    1. Maybe about 20 minutes from start to finish? The bake for 9-12 minutes. Hope that helps!! Thanks for stopping by!

    1. I would only keep them a few days in the fridge & I have not tried freezing them, but they may work just fine 🙂 You could keep them maybe a week in the fridge, after that I personally throw it out.

  4. 5 stars
We love these. I also roll them in some bread crumbs before baking to give them a little crunch. So delicious!

    1. You probably could, but I would maybe add the sauce on top until right before you bake. That should help prevent it getting soggy. Hope you enjoy!

  5. Hmmm..I have not tried that, but I would maybe look to see on the package how much it makes, if you were to make a dressing with it, then you that same amount. Hope that helps 🙂

  6. Hi. CAN i wrap these up the night before or morning oF a party and cook them later? Would that work or would they get too soggy before baking? Thanks.

    1. I haven’t tried that. They might, but honestly can’t say, since I haven’t made them that far in advance. I would think the morning of would be ok 🙂

  7. 5 stars
Just made this tonight and I’m making it a regular!! Soooo good. Even my picky eater, who likes things as PLAin as POSSible, scarfed down a couple of these!

  8. I would Use about half of the dressing packet, this was way too salTy and the whole filling concoCtion became very gummy.

  9. My daughter was making chicken bundles last night and they sounded so good that I decided to get the recipe. You have some easy recipes. There is only one of me now as my husband died in September. Do you think the bundle recipe could be halved and still taste as good?

    1. I am sorry about your hubby 🙁 Yes, you could always half a recipe & it would still be great! Thank you so much!

  10. Thank you so much for posting the nutrition facts with the recipe. But I cannot find a serving size listed — do you know that? I am guessing Maybe two of the pockets?

    1. It doesn’t get golden like the tops, but it doesn’t get super mushy either. It might get a little mushy, but not all the time. Just depends if sauce gets on the bottom. They are super yummy. Hope you try them!

tHIS TURNED OUT PRETTY GOOD! i ADDED CORN AND PEAS, TO KICK UP THE VEGGIE NUTRITION AND INSTEAD OF MAKING INTO CRESCENTS, I MADE A BIG SQUARE OUT OF 2 – THAT WORKED GREAT!! i’LL DEF MAKE THIS AGAIN!

  12. 5 stars
I have made these before and you can also use Tuna with spinach or asparagus. I have also used puff pastry I make 2 inch strips fill 1 half then fold it over and seal edges.

  13. Could I add the italian mix and cream cheese and cream of chicken soup in Crock pot with the chicken and then cook it on high for 4 hours?

    1. You can add the Italian mix and cream of chicken soup to the Crockpot with the chicken and cook it on high for 4 hours but add the cream cheese in small chunks 15 minutes before the 4 hour mark and mix together with everything. Cream cheese will curdle if it cooks for too long at high temps so adding the cream cheese 15 minutes before you are done cooking will ensure a smooth sauce for your chicken bundles.

I just had to laugh. Someone said something about making it with the ranch dressing. I thought that is what it said to do! I guess I read it wrong. I have to tell you that it tastes great made with the ranch dressing mix! Next time I will try it with the Italian!! Haha

So easy and delicious! I used 3 rolls crescent dough as there was so much of the filing. My family really likes these

  16. I want to try these this weekend. Has anyone used cream of mushroom soup or cream of chicken with mushrooms in place of the 1 can of chicken soup?

    1. Using a rotisserie chicken makes it even easier. I love it! I’m so glad your family enjoyed them. 🙂

    2. My package of Italian Dressing does not have 3 Tablespoons in it. It only has a little over 3 teaspoons. I wanted to make sure of the correct measurement before I add it.

      1. If it is a full packet, it should have enough seasoning to make the recipe flavorful. I typically use the 0.7 oz packet and it tastes great! If you want a heaver Italian seasoning, you can add more.

      1. I made this. Very good but I had so much chicken mixture leftover and the sauce. Enough to make another recipe

        Can these be frozen cooked?

  17. 5 stars
Delicious 😋 recipe! I am anxious to try it again, next time with the optional green onions!

    1. Thank you! I’m a fan of the green onions… hopefully you will enjoy them in the bundles too!

    1. No, it probably just depended on how large you filled each roll. You could either stuff the rolls a bit more, or you could use another can of crescent rolls and make a few more until the mixture is all used up.

I tried to make these, but I couldn’t find anywhere what temperature to bake them at? Just says bake 9-12 minutes. so needless to say they didn’t turn out.

    1. Hi Julie! Step one of the instructions says to preheat the oven to 375 degrees. So they will bake at that temperature for the 9-12 minutes (from step 8). You’ll have to give them another try and see how they turn out! 🙂

    2. Going to make today for my folks and I using rotisserie chicken and cream of celery cutting recipe in half for the 3 of us. Been wanting to to try.

      1. Ooh I love using rotisserie chicken in recipes when I’m in a hurry or have it on hand. Sounds like good substitutions. Hope you enjoy the bundles!

I made this yesterday using canned chicken. Because it turned out too salty, next time, I will use home cooked chicken and low sodium cream of chicken soup. I really liked it except for the saltiness.

    1. Sounds like a good idea! You can certainly do that to adjust the sodium levels in the recipe to your liking. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Yay! So glad to hear! They are a family favorite over here too. Thanks for giving the recipe a try.

  20. I made this. Very good but I had so much chicken mixture leftover and the sauce. Enough to make another recipe.

    1. The extra filling should last in the fridge for a day or so, if you wanted to make another batch. I haven’t frozen these before (because they usually get eaten too quickly), but I imagine you could freeze the filling in a freezer bag. Then thaw completely and fill in fresh crescent roll dough for another dinner another night.

  21. I made this. Very good but I had so much chicken mixture leftover and the sauce. Enough to make another recipe

    Can these be frozen cooked?

    1. You could freeze the filling and then just thaw and fill fresh crescent rolls when you are ready to have that meal again. That will yield the freshest roll. However, I haven’t tried cooking the full bundles from frozen, but you could give it a try. You could also roll them up and freeze, then thaw overnight in the fridge and cook in the oven the next day from thawed.

I made this tonight. I only had cream of celery, so used that. I added a small package of real bacon bits and 4 oz of shredded pepper jack cheese.

They were sooooo good! I think next time I’ll use the big crescent rolls. Or flaky biscuits flattened out and after the mixture is put on it, either fold it over or put another biscuit on top and seal the edges.

Definitely pleased with how they turned out. Will be making them again.

    1. Yay!! I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the recipe. The addition of bacon and pepper jack sound delicious!

These are so good!! My fiance and I make a double batch and freeze them. They are perfect to always have on hand. We like to add peas and carrots to them to incorporate some veggies in there as well. We end up using 5-6 cans of crescent rolls which is my only complaint about the recipe the first time around… I had wished I had bought more rolls for the amount of filling. Overall, super great for freezing and having on hand all the time!

    1. Thanks for your feedback! I love that you just make a large batch and freeze to have them on hand when you’re in need of an easy dinner! And adding those veggies in sounds delicious too. Thanks for sharing!

  24. i don’t get how to roll these are they all seperate ? or one big sheet of dough on the cookie sheet? i see it says roll left side in then right side . these rolls are small so how does filling fit in ?

    1. Yes, you pull each roll apart on the perferated cuts in the dough. Then use a few tablespoons (I usually use a cookie dough scoop or just a large spoonful) to fill in each crescent roll. Then roll up starting with the large side of the triangle and wrap the dough around.

  25. 5 stars
Per your suggestion I added the spinach. Not only were these fun to make, but they were a hit with the entire family. Thank you for always having great recipes.

  26. Shouldn’t the recipe say 2 pkg of Italian Dry Mix? I pkg is actually 1.5 TB not 3. It’s either that or it should say 1.5 TB.

  27. 5 stars
This is really pretty good! I added a sprinkle of sharp cheddar cheese before I rolled them up. I also baked them at least 13 minutes if not a little longer. I don’t like uncooked dough lol. My husband is a picky eater and he liked them! I used the whole mixture with only half the chicken and 1 pkg of dry mix (which is 1.5 TB) and made only 8 rolls. Thanks for the recIpe!!!

    1. You’re welcome!! Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try and for sharing what you did. Glad to hear you hubby approved too! 😉

  28. 5 stars
So delicious and a family favorite for sure! I have found I’ve had to almost double up on the amount of Cresent rolls I need. I’m not complaining about eating more of these though!

  29. 5 stars
Made these for the family before church and they loved them. Despite burning my finger on the pan I’ll Definitely be making them again. Thank you so much!

    1. You’re welcome! Sorry to hear about the burn. So glad you all enjoyed the chicken bundles!

  30. These are one of my family’s favorite meals. I make my gravy from the chicken broth I cooked the chicken in. Start with cream of chicken soup and sour cream, then add enough chicken broth to make it the consistency you like. So good!!

  31. 2 stars
I have made these twice and theyre too wet. The amount of filling to the crescent roll is too much. I even cut down to one cream of chicken and it didn’t turn out. Maybe my crescent rolls are just to small

  32. Do you think you could do this in a 9 x13 or so baking pan with one layer of dough on the bottom and one on the top with the chicken mixture in the middle or would it be to thick to cook well?
