There are SO many side dish recipes to choose from for Christmas!
Here’s why we love them:
- Simple AND tasty! Whether youโre looking for a simple side dish or just an unbelievably delicious side dish, we got you covered!
- Complement. With so many sides to choose from you’re sure to find a perfect pairing to add to your holiday menu.
- Easy! Many of these dishes can be made ahead of time, or come together in a snap.
It’s easier to choose when you have a specific type of cuisine, but we wanted to share some of our favorites, as well as some tips for making them for the holidays.
Our number 1 Tip!
Plan a few side dishes that can be prepared in different ways so you aren’t overcrowding the oven or stove.
Christmas Sides Tips
When planning your Christmas dinner menu, use these tips to ensure you have enough food to go around!
- How many different dishes. For the first 6-7 guests I always serve a vegetable, a starch, and a 3rd side of my choice.
- For every additional 5-8 people add another side dish, making sure that the dishes are balanced.
- Sharing. If you are asked to bring a side dish to contribute, consider the host – does she have room in her oven to keep it warm – if not try something like this tote.
- If that’s too much for you, consider bringing a dish that is served cold or at room temperature like Corn Pudding or Tortellini Skewers.
Keep Sides hot
Some sides will need to get heated and kept hot until everything is all ready to serve. Try using:
- A cooler. Its insulation will also help retain heat. Cover the pots and pans with a lid or foil and stack them inside (be sure that they donโt smoosh the food underneath).
- Slow cooker. A crock pot set to low or warm.
- Food carrier. Use an insulated food carrier.
- Chafing dishes
