WHY We love Fall Desserts
Turn on the oven and bring out the warm pies, delicious crisps, sweet cookies, and cakes. It’s Fall!!
Why we love Fall Treats:
- COZY. Nothing is more cozy than a fall centered dessert when the weather starts cooling down.
- SEASONAL INGREDIENTS. We love that so many of these treats center around the weather and the seasonal produce like pumpkin and apples.
- SIMPLE. So many of these fall desserts are quick and easy, which are great for upcoming get togethers and your next Halloween party.
Some classics we love, include: Pumpkin Cake, Bread Pudding, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies, Pumpkin Brownies and Apple Crisp.
Seasonal fruit Tips
Since pumpkins and apples are in season, you’ll see many fall desserts that feature these two fruits.
- Pumpkin. Most recipes that use pumpkin call for canned pumpkin puree. Be sure you don’t accidentally buy canned pie filling or seasoned pumpkin.
- Apples. As far as apples go, choose apples that hold their structure when baked (typically, the more tart apples). Here are a few work well: Honeycrisps, Pink Lady, Braeburn, Jonagold, and Granny Smith.
- More fall fruits perfect for baking with or adding a fruit topping to a delicious dessert: pear, grape, persimmon, cranberry, fig, key lime, pomegranate, banana, kiwifruit, lemon, mango, pineapple, or raspberry.
Besides pumpkins and apples, I feel like oats give a warm autumn feeling and of course there are plenty of desserts featuring chocolate which I love to eat year round!
Tips for Fall Desserts
- Homemade Pumpkin Spice is one of our favorite spices to use because you get the taste of fall flavors in every bite. It’s a perfect blend of ginger, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg!
- How many desserts to make for a fall party. When hosting a fall party, I like to plan for guests to be able to have 2 servings of dessert.
- For example:
- For 10 guests: Serve 2 desserts having 10 servings of each dessert for a total of 20 servings.
- For 30 guests: Serve 3-4 desserts with a total of 60 servings.
- For 50 guests: Have 5-6 dessert choices with a total of 100 servings.
Dessert Toppings
- Pies, cobblers, and crisps are often topped with a dollop of Whipped Cream, a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream, or a drizzle of Caramel Sauce or Chocolate Sauce.
- Use fall themed candies and sprinkles such as fall colored M&M’s, candy corn, leaf shaped sprinkles and more.
storing tips
Make ahead of time. Whether you’re making one batch or ten, most of the desserts on this list can be fully made ahead of time or partially prepared so all you have to do is mix and bake.
STORE. To make a large amount ahead of time be sure that you have enough room in the fridge or freezer to store them all. You can also choose a dessert that can be fully prepared and kept at room temperature for 1-2 days.

60+ Fall Desserts
Ingredients
- 2 rounds pie dough, homemade or store bought
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- ½ cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon kosher sea salt
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray two mini muffin tins with baking spray, set aside.
- Roll out pie dough on a baking mat or lightly floured surface. Using a 3" circle or flower-shaped cookie cutter, cut out 24 pieces. Gently press into the wells of the prepared muffin tins. Place in the refrigerator to chill.
- Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, heavy cream, egg, sugars, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, salt and vanilla.
- Remove the tins from the refrigerator and fill each crust with 1.5 tablespoons of filling (you can use a #40 cookie scoop to do this). Tap the tins on the counter to create a smooth, even filling.
- Place in the oven and bake for 18-22 minutes or until the crust begins to turn golden brown in color.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the tins for 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon, if desired.

You once had a pumpkin spice trifle recipe on your site which I printed. It has been well used, but now I would like to able to download it in my recipe file on my phone. I cannot find your recipe any longer on your website. My family expects me to make it every Thanksgiving it is such a hit. Can you tell me where I might be able to find it?
Thank you
So that recipe was a contributor recipe that we no longer have on the website. But here is a link to a printable version of the recipe. Hope this helps! https://lilluna.com/wprm_print/101881
